Rutgers Roommate faces Hate Crimes charges (Tyler Clementi case)

Dharun Ravi (Clementi's roommate who allegedly streamed video and tweeted about Clementi's encounters with another male) has been indicted by a grand jury on hate crime charges that could result, if he is convicted, in a sentence of 5-10 years.

There was also this:
"The grand jury also charged Mr. Ravi, 19, with a cover-up. The Middlesex County prosecutor’s office said he had deleted a Twitter post that alerted others to watch a second encounter Mr. Clementi planned with the man — identified in the indictment only as “M.B.” — and replaced it with a post “intended to mislead the investigation.” Prosecutors said Mr. Ravi had also tried to persuade witnesses not to testify."

I guess the lessons of Watergate still haven't been learned. The alleged cover-up attempt and witness tampering could really end up sealing the deal for him.

I wonder if college kids are more widely attuned since this incident to invasion of privacy issues that should have deterred Ravi from engaging in this behavior with respect to any roommate's sexual activities?

It’s about time.
