I recently deactivated my facebook because it basically opened up a pandoras box of crap about me and a particular female. Does everybody in college use facebook? Will I have to eat my pride and open it back up to "fit in"? Have pitty on me...I was dumped on facebook.

It makes contact with high school friends a lot easier, that's for sure.

You could always start a new facebook. And this time be more careful on who you let see/be your friend on facebook.

Basically everyone I know (excluding some old people) has facebook. My cousin doesn't but she goes to community college so it's not as weird (and also she has myspace). I don't really know how I'd keep in touch with everyone I know if I didn't have it... I totally understand the facebook dumping though- my ex broke up with me and by the time I got home from his house he'd deleted our relationship status, so of course then all my friends knew about it immediately. Whatever, that wasn't really what I was upset about overall, you know? If that's the main part you're upset about from your dumping, it's probably best to move on anyway, right?

facebook is amazing.
college would be lonely without it.

Plus, you can't facebook-stalk without a facebook!

true. facebook stalking...that's where everything really comes into play....

this is off-topic.

what's a Y? sometimes people say an ex and a y. I recently saw this term on a webcomic but I don't get it.

PHD Comics: Ex`s

(just guessing y = gay?)

you know you're going to reactivate it in a week so why post this thread

^ You are probably right :) I hate how addicting it gets. I was thinking about starting the anti facebook revolution, but then I realized I would be the first person to cave.

Heh, Facebook isn't that great. I stopped logging on since the year began. Still haven't logged on. Really hate how all I ever get is application request spamming and no one ever seems to want to say something to you. If I ever log on again it'll be either to deactivate my account, or get rid of that stupid Likeness application that's somehow found its way into spamming my e-mail.

haha speak for yourself.

Unlike the OP, I legitimately hate facebook. But then again I'm a salty misanthrope.

protip: if you actually hate facebook but cannot part with it because it makes staying in touch with friends so easy, disable your wall :)

it's like screening your calls - it keeps people from interacting with you unless they have something substantial enough to message you about.

The voyeuristic rush of FB is too strong for most people to resist.

As someone who remembers what college was like before facebook, and what a paradigm shift it was once it launched (oh those days of waiting to see if your friend at XYZ was finally going to get it at their school), I can honestly say, it's probably one of the best things to ever come from the internet. There are so many people that it's the only way I'd ever be somewhat up to date on what's happening in their lives. Even people I didn't particularly like in HS, it's also interesting to add them as a friend and find out if they made anything of themselves. Plus, once you graduate college it's such a help keeping up with those friends who move away for jobs or grad school.

facebooking is an utmost retarded method of socializing. i say just talk to people (unless you ACTUALLY met them online)

To answer this (if you're seriously asking), according to the comic, a person becomes a "y" instead of an "(e)x" when you cannot understand "y" on earth you dated them.

On topic:
I like facebook. It helps me keep in touch with people because you can just look them up instead of having to find them and be like "what's ur cell/email/social security number..." whatever. :P

It's more for people who you can't talk to on a regular basis.
