Havard Likely Letters

Did anyone get one recently? (Sorry if there's already a thread on this) My mom almost had a heart attack when she read mine. How many letters are sent out each year?

congratulations

Did you do something incredible like win Intel? I've heard about one or two people, but it appears to be very rare.

No, I'm definitely not that incredible. Instead, I go around posting threads with "Harvard" spelled wrong.

^^^ Hehehe.

Maybe Harvard likes you because of your modesty. :D

Congrats!

congrats pandora.. i secretly am jealous of you.. thats so bad of me.. phew!

wow a likely from harvard... nice

Congrats!
Are you an athlete?

Thanks for all the congrats!

Ellmtree: I'm a master wrestler with my thumb. Does that count?

Hey! Join the Harvard 2011 facebook group--you know you want to!

What does it read like?? :) I always wondered what it would say.

I know she'll want to start controversy on the MIT 2011 group, too, about how to choose one Cambridge school over another! :p

wow, congrats. i got one from dartmouth but harvard, thats amazing.

what does the letter say?

Hey, congratulations. I looked up your stats on the caltech ea thread. I don't think many of us would consider doing as much community service as you did with an 80K income. I thought I was having it bad with 90K. I guess that's why you're the one with the likely letter!

would you mind posting a scan of the letter? not that I don't believe you it's just that I want to see how it looks.

Pandora, you seem really cool. I'm very happy for you!

@nutmeg: I tell myself $40,000-80,000/year is a whole lot better than $20,000/year :)

Erm, I don't have a scanner, so would you guys mind if I typed part of it instead?

Dear ________: [Note to self: c'mon Hahvahd, we're buddies now, you can use the ","]

I am delighted to report that the Admissions Committee has asked me to inform you that your are likely to be admitted to the Class of 2011. We anticipate that we will send you the formal letter of admission in March, assuming (as we do) that you will maintain your current academic and personal standards. [Note to self: DO NOT pull a Blair Hornstine]

Each year, only a small number of outstanding applicants receive this positive indication. We are of course eager to encourage you to choose Harvard. The opinion of the Admissions Committee is not merely that your accomplishments-academic, extracurricular, personal-are impressive, but also that you would be a particularly good match for the opportunities and challenges your would find here. In short, we think you would flourish at Harvard.

Harvard's foundation rests on the extraordinary strength of the undergraduate college, the historic and physical center of the University in Cambridge. The liberal arts experience of our students is enriched by the scholarship and research of a world-renowned faculty deeply engaged in undergraduate teaching. With over one hundred and thirty Freshman Seminars, renowned small group tutorials, seminors and supervised research in more than forty fields of study, and with twenty or fewer students in nearly 750 of our 1040 courses, Harvard offers a highly personalized education.

We hope you will be able to visit Harvard for our April Visiting Program designed for admitted students or at another time. We very much look forward to seeing you in Cambridge. [Note to self: What if I go to MIT instead?]
