Have any of the winter admits been bumped up yet?

Hey, just wondering...

Have any of you who were admitted to Winter 2010 bumped up to a fall quarter or are you still waiting to hear?

Does anyone know if they will even do that this year?

if they bump up to fall, they bump up EVERYONE to fall (so..if there's 1 person short, then we all get winter). we dont find out till after may 1st, cuz then they'll find out how many fall ppl are going. then, if UCSD is short of its target goal for the fall class, they'll bump all of us to fall if there's space. but, it hasn't happened in the past few years. so, dont depend on it too much.

btw, if u havent already, u can join the winter admit group on fb :] "UCSD Winter Admit 2010"

Oh. Thats completely different from other things I've heard.

I've heard that they look at people point value on the application and go in order of that as space opens up. Thats kind of what the admissions officer also implied to me when I talked to them last week.

Hm. Where did you hear this from?

Oh, and I think I've already joined the group. But I'll double check

well, i thought i heard on admit day on the winter session that that's how they do it..
but, now that u mention it, i remember calling them a while back and getting a response similar to yours with the point value. i'm gonna call them again tomorrow to make sure. sorry in advance if my info was wrong >.<

Yeah, I'll call them up too, probably in the morning before I go on vacation and I'll post up whatever I find out on here.

And even if the info is wrong, you're only trying to help and I really appreciate it.

Aviboy,
Admissions told me over the phone they bump students up based on where they are on the list. Don't know if that is true, or just what that one Admissions Officer thinks tho.

Thanks man. I was told the same exact thing by an admissions officer today.

Oh yeah... they also told me if they do move anyone up, we shouldnt expect to hear until a week or so after May 1st.

Also, we could also be offered an opportunity to be moved up for quite a while (the lady said June 1st would most likely be the last day to hear but she said some people may hear a while afterwords)

But if we all do get bumped to fall, we are going to have to pay more and have less financial aid, b/c the preliminary is based on our winter admission total cost if I'm not mistaken...

Well yeah.

Whoever is bumped up (and accepts it) will have to pay more money. Thats another thing I confirmed with them today.

If we are bumped up, then whoever is in fall wont get any more money. It'll be another $7000-$10000 dollars.

That is horrible. My EFC was around 1518. I got 10,000 in grants and 6000 in loans. Probably not going to be able to afford the extra 7000-10,000.

SD is definitely not worth the difference in fin. aid I will be receiving from UCI in that case..

^maybe you can appeal ur fin aid?it would make sense to me that they would adjust it though..thats really weird. and when i called them today..they said that they move EVERYONE up..i'm confused, but whatever :]

i've heard from some people tht u dont have to accept the fall offer and u can choose to stay in winter..but i'm not sure.

Yeah. We can choose whether of not we want to accept the offer to go to fall.

Unfortunately they dont adjust it. I just had a conversation w/ one of my friends who got in winter quarter two years ago and got bumped up to fall. He said they didnt adjust his financial aid package and w/e he had to begin with was what he was given in the end. And he even had an EFC of 0.

I think they do give offers in order of the rank of the application. I say this because so far an overwhelming majority said that the admissions officers they talked to said they do it in order of rank, and not to everyone.

^ohh i see. hmm, do u also know if we're guaranteed housing if we're bumped up to fall?

I think we do, since anyone admitted to fall gets housing guaranteed for 2 years. But I dont think we have that many options as to who we get to room with. I think they just throw us in where they have room.

Yes…I got bumped up to fall 2009 from winter 2010 today, May 4th…but I will be on a housing waiting list…

hell yes!
@goaggies: i believe we are guaranteed housing still.

my brother just got bumped. same deal as goaggies for housing.

“As a fall freshman, you will be guaranteed housing for your first two years. You can find a link to apply for housing on the MyApplication site.”

“Housing will be notified of this change in admission term and will work with you to accommodate your housing application.”

WE ARE GUARANTEED HOUSING FOR SURE! ^_^

Hell yeah baby!
