O.K. unlike everyone else I will be honest.

ACT 27 (90th percentile)
Old SAT I 1110 (70 something percentile)

Both scores sort of shocked everyone since I am ranked 2/200 in one of the most competetive schools in Alaska. Ha ha love to keep people guessing. Anway except for the science section the ACT is way easier of a test. It is pretty straightforward and does not have such a strong emphasis on tricking you. Also the ACT has better essay topics.

Why do you say we are lying... you have to understand, you are in a forum with some of the top students in America... not to sound pretencious or anything (I personally am by no means up with most of the kids here)

Obviously the so called "top students of America" have absolutely no sense of humor or you would have realized that I was just joking. Anway I mean only 1% of people get nearly perfect scores on SAT and ACT and I have a hard time believing that the majority of them are members of this site. Also you can't believe half of what you read online especially when it is a site where people love to brag.

Undoubtedly there are some people on this forum who lie, but I'd sooner believe everyone who posted here. This is a college discussion forum where everyone wants to go to a top school, after all.

I hate the ACT. I took it cold without knowing timing or quite what was on it and ending up running out of time. I'm so glad good schools (seemingly, to me at least) prefer the SAT.

How can you hate a test that you admittedly did not prepare for which also (as you say) led you to do poorly? Did you also take the SAT cold, or with preparation?

SAT I (01/05) - 1420 (750 V 670 M) SAT I (05/05)- 2070 (730/710/630)
SAT IIs (took BioM in June 2004, and USH, Math IIC, and Lit in June 2005) - 760, 760, 770, 720
ACT (September 05) 34/34/34/30/33 Composite

SAT is terrible. I despise the format of the test - breaking the sections up.
The ACT was better - it felt like I was taking tests at school, though the science section rattled my brain. The 34 on the English test shows that I am better at it than the 630 suggest.

Primarily I don't like the format of the ACT. I'm the opposite of a lot of people in that I felt the four long sections made it seem like a longer test. I'm not that displeased with a 33; I just like my SAT score better.

wow. you all have such great scores! i heard ACT was easier, just more about pacing yourself? and that the science had all the info given to you, just had to apply? how hard is the science section? and how hard is the math and lit and essay compared to SATs? coudl you prepare for SATs and go take ACT and score rather well? Thanks!

I think it's useful to at least LOOK at samples of whatever type of test you're planning to take. I think there is overlap in the subject matter covered, but folks differ on how well they do on the different formats--ACT vs . SAT. Many folks find the ACT "easier," but which test will give the student a higher score is anyone's guess.
If you do well on both types of formats, be aware that some schools REQUIRE SATII regardless of whether you took the SAT or ACT. Also, many schools require you take the essay portion of whichever test you take for admission to 2006. Double-check with your GC and/or the schools you're interested in applying to so you don't have a nasty surprise when it's time to submit scores.

D's scores: 32 composite
math 34
eng 34
read 26
science 32

This is up from a 26 in June. She won't take it again. We are very happy with the 32. She does have to take the SAT again because one of her schools won't accept ACT. The reading gets her on all tests - ACT or SAT. Science is up from a previous score of 23! She always complains about science. I know the information is "all there" - but it is much harder to interpret than you'd think. I am an engineer and I tried to work on the science stuff with her and it is a PAIN. It is really READING - about science!
D's aunt is a college counselor - she says that they group ACT scores, 26&27, 28&29, 30&31, 32&33, etc. She says each jump is significant - from a 27 to a 28, 29 to 30, 31 to 32 are all "huge" jumps in the admissions people's minds. I'm not sure why...
