Anyone took the SAT and the ACT?

Whay were your scores on each and which one was easier?

i already posted this on the SAT thread, but just in case you don't recheck that or something, here it is again.

personally i thought the ACT was much easier.

i got a 35 in december (35 math, 36 science, 36 english, 34 reading) with no studying.

on january SAT i got a 1480/2150 (800 math, 680 cr, 670 writing) after taking a short SAT class.

i retook the SAT in June and got a 1460/2190 (750 math, 710 cr, 730 writing) with no studying after the january test.

so my best combined SAT is 1510/2240. the 35 on the ACT is equal to a 1580 so that is definitely higher.

for me the ACT just fit better. i am more of a math/science person so maybe that was part of it. also, i did not really have trouble with the tougher time constraints of the ACT, but that is a factor for many people. hope that helps.

i, on the other hand, find the SAT easier.

But that is because I suck at science.

First time SAT: 670 M 680 CR
First time ACT: 29
Second time SAT: 670 M 770 CR 780 WR (12 ESSAY)
Second time ACT: 31 (science: 28)

So ya it's all about what you're better at I think. I'm obviously better at reading and writing, so SAT is better for me. I just need to conquer that math.

oops sorry second time ACT was 32
Math 31 Reading 34 English 35

I did significantly better on the ACT than the SAT.

SAT

Math: 760
Critical Reading: 670 (ouch)
Writing: 700 (9 on my essay, ouch)
Combined: 2130

ACT

English: 36 (11 on my essay for an English/Writing of 35)
Math: 33
Critical Reading: 33
Science: 32
Composite: 34

That was after taking SAT prep classes and practice tests and yet no preparation whatsoever for the ACT. I say definitely take both and see how you do on each.

esp. if you live in the midwest, the school's cirriculum is more focused on the ACT, so that might be a benefit

You're right, twinkletoes. I live in Minnesota and something like only 10% of graduating seniors have taken the SAT here.

does the ACT round the score..say ur composite is a 29.5...will u get a 30

Yes. (10 char.)

cool (10 char)

I took a class for the SAT and just looked at a practice test the night before my ACT, from the official REAL ACT practice test, I thought I had it totally in the bag, thought the test seemed SO easy, but when it came time to the test, I thought it was HARD!

I ended up with a 2030 first SAT, 2120 second SAT, and a 30 ACT so far. I plan to retake both, I felt like in theory the ACT should be easier but I ended up running out of time. I feel like if you can get the time issue down, then the ACT might be easier, but at this point I am just more comfortable with the SAT so I'm finding that better.

Just need to try some practices for both to see what you think, everyone's different.

I got a 1680 on the SAT ( with no prep ) and a 29 on the ACT ( with some prep ). I think the ACT was definately easier.

The ACT is straightforward; the SAT tries to trick you. I took the SAT in Fall 2004 (before the writing part) and got a 1390. Then I took the ACT in February of 2005 and got a 32 composite. I just took the June ACT and got a 35. To me, the ACT is the easier test. But, to each their own.

SAT: 2180 (760M, 720WR, 700CR) :(
ACT: 35 (32E,35M,36R,35S, 11E) :)

Ehh they're actually failry easy exams but I just had a better testing day when I took the ACT in June. Do you guys think it's worth it to retake my SAT???

evilasiandictator - I posted a "should I retake the SAT" thread here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=208097

We will see how the responses go.

evilasian dictator, don't retake the SATs. your ACTs are splendid and if you do take the SATS over, you might risk getting a lower score and wasting 40+ bucks.

SAT I: 770M 700CR 790W 1470/2260
ACT 34C (35E 35M 34R 30S)
I think the ACT was easier. I hate how the SAT skips around and gives only like 24 minutes on each section. The ACT gives Math in a one hour chunk and is done with it. I think my ACT translates into like a 1520-1540 or something.

i've never taken the sat, but i think it would be harder than the act.

i live in NW Arkansas, and i never even knew taking the sat was an option until 10th grade, and i just recently heard about the sat 2. most of the colleges i'm applying to require them. none of my teachers nor my counselor have even mentioned sat 2 subject tests to me.

SAT- m:690 cr: 700 w: 800
ACT- english: 34 math: 33 reading: 29 science: 24 comp:30

science was my downfall :(

It would be helpful for readers to know what grade you are in at the time you test and include the test date. Age is also an interesting comparison. My son has a late birthday for his grade. He's entering his Junior year yet he just turned 16 on June 6th.

For example,

someone posted a 31 composite when they took the ACT spring 06 of Sophmore year is much different than someone posting the same score if they took it Fall of Senior year.
