What did you guys score on both tests?

I suck at the SAT plain and simple. My ACT was a 30 but I just retook it, hoping for a 32 this time (math was what brought it down the first time), while my SAT was only a 1280 (I took the old one) 690V, 580M (ouch). Someone just told me that ivies only like SAT scores. Do you know if that's true? If so, I'm majorally screwed since I was counting on my expected ACT score of a 32 to be converted to a 1420.

My son's ACT was a composite of 34; his SAT Is add up to 2230 or the old one was 1530. His SAT IIs were 800, 770, 760, 740, 730. He's probably just going to send this SATs & his HS transcript lists all the test scores from all his testing anyway.

Act: 28
Sat: 1820

Act: 33
Sat: 2170 (1400 M+cr)

Yes

ACT 33
SAT 2350

SAT is way easier, IMO (though it is longer)

Act: 34 (33e 34m 34r 33s) 32e/w
Sat: 2050 (670cr 660m 720r)

ACT: 33 (35e 30m 33r 33s) 10 on essay
SAT: 1980 (620cr 660m 700w) 9 on essay - i only took this once

I <3 ACT!!

ACT: 35 (34 e 36m 34r 36s)
SAT: 1510 (710V 800M) and 2180 (640CR 800M 740W)

Both test are different and test different things. The ACT tends to test what a student is likely to have learned throughout their high school career. The SAT is geared more towards testing the students abilities. There is no real way to tell which test you will do better on so I suggest that you just take both and hope for the best.

Personally I found that the ACT was the easier of the two tests but that is up to you to decide.

Son's scores
ACT: composite 36 (36m 36r 36s 35e)
SAT: 2310 (770V 800M 740CR, 11 on essay)
SATII: Math2c 800

2400 SAT
33 ACT (I missed a few on the math because I'd forgotten some trig and functions stuff, and I missed a lot on the science cuz I'd never seen anything like it and I ran out of time)

There is no way of knowing which will be easier for you except to take practice tests for both.

The question of whether Ivies like the ACT as much has been discussed heavily on the Parents boards. There is no consensus.

2060 SAT 2200SAT2's
33 ACT
I definitely like ACT better, i dont know why... no guessing penalty?

2270 SAT
32 ACT
I wouldn't reccomend going into the ACT without any prior knowledge of the test, as I did, the timing is considerably more difficult than that of the SAT and the science section is just ***. I think if one studied, the ACT could potentially be an easier test.

that's a good point....if you don't like worrying about the guessing penalty, you might like the ACT better.

A few other things you might like better:

ACT's essay comes at the very end (you'll be tired, but at least it isn't the crack of dawn), and you get 5 more minutes for it than the SAT gives you.

ACT's sections are much longer (35 min x 2, 45 min, and 60 min) but there are only 4 of them, whereas the SAT has 10 sections. The ACT might feel shorter to you if you like to get into a groove and feel like you have more flexibility with how you manage your time within a section. SAT is much choppier (25 min x 7, 20 min x 2, 10 min x 1) so you have to watch the clock very carefully, but you do feel like you're getting more frequent breaks even if you're really just transitioning between sections.

The bottom line is that for many many reasons, the ACT feels more like a test you would take in school.

2300 SAT/1540
34 ACT (Although I must note I was extremely close to a 35: 36W/E, 33Science 33 math, 35 reading)
I took the ACT cold, I only took the SAT once but had taken it as a sophomore so I was familiar with the format.

35 ACT
2250 SAT and a 1550 old...

I preferred the ACT

One last bump

2200 SAT (670 V, 790 M, 740 W 11 Sub)
33 ACT taken cold (36 M, 33 E, 33 S, 30 R)

I took the ACT 7 times... haha best I could must 34, 2200 SAT

I practically was the ACT taking mascot, so I found it easier, my SAT score went down 200 points the second time I took it... ACT slowly went up

D ACT 35/10 essay, SAT 1470 CR+Math/2160/9 essay. She hated the SAT with a passion. Hated science on the ACT (first time 32 with a 36 Math and a 26 science dragging it down. She missed every question on one graph section. Ran out of time. But she learned and had a 34 science second time around.).
