Have anyone tried personalized rankings?

When advising my little cousin for college options, I came across Higher Education Rankings by IVRI and their personalized reporting thing sounds good for me. I looked at the sample report and it appears to be very informative. I'm thinking of purchasing one, the price is not bad. Anybody has any experience with the website? Looks like it's run by a legit company.

Many thanks,
Mick.

I haven’t heard of it, but it seems kind of pointless to me to pay for college rankings. This website, along with College Board and several others, have free search tools that are very comprehensive and will match schools to your criteria. Once you have about 20-30 schools that interest you, it is your job (or your cousin’s in this case) to investigate each school in order to evaluate whether it is a good fit. You can’t outsource the college choice to a private company that claims they can give you a “personal ranking” or use an algorithm to determine the best college for an individual person.

I agree with mmmgirl. Your family and college counselor can say much more about you and your potential college matches than a company can with very little information about you. Keep your money for useful things.

CC’s own [College Search](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/college_search) does a personalized search for free.

I can guarantee that they are just using the data in this database that is provided by the government (see the Data Center)-
[The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System - Home Page](IPEDS)

So you can do this yourself for free, you just need to read the instructions on how to use the database!

You can also use the College Navigator search tool that is listed on the IPEDS page.
