Hey all.

I am a ME major at MSU Bozeman

So im in my freshman year (first semester), and I couldnt get into ME117 and ME118 because I am an international and thus arrived for the last orientation (when the slots were already filled). My ONLY ME class is 101, which doesn't have any final and only is 1 credit. I do have Honors Calc I (I couldve gone into Calc 3, multivariable calc through credits but decided not to, but save that for another day).

So I decided to finish some of my CORE classes this semester. I have one writing course, one text and critics course, one religion course. These creative courses account for 10 out of my 15 credits.

I dont even feel like a ME major. Where are all the problems regarding projectiles, force components, and machinery??

I do feel very happy with the creative courses, but I just have a fear that I might not be as interested in ME later on in the Spring.

What is your general advice to me?

I have no idea how you could suddenly lose interest in ME over the course of a few months because you are taking liberal arts classes. The classes will come, just be patient. Once they start you might begin wishing you could take more liberal arts courses instead of all engineering all the time.

Nearly every person in the country who majors in engineering gets stuck with very little in the way of engineering courses when they start. There are just certain foundational courses that come first.

Most engineering students don’t start engineering courses until their second year, with the first year mostly involving math, science, computing, humanities, and social science courses. So you’re not in the minority.

If you want to ensure that you stay connected to ME, join ASME and attend meetings and presentations.

Yea bonehead but I dont even have some classes that other freshmen do simply because I came for the last orientation…like ME 117/118…but yeah, you guys are right…
