I am currently a junior. During my freshman year, I was going through a rough time, and therefore had a 3.1 unweighted gpa. Last year I only received B's in AP Euro, giving me a 3.85. So far this year I have all A's.

Let's assume that I have average ECs, letters, and an 2150+ SAT. Would I have any chance at the top 20 schools in the country?

If by top 20 you mean Ivy League? No.

However, given a significant GPA boost, you may be able to get into a good Public university.

I am hoping I will still have a chance at Georgetown, Northwestern, Chicago, Rice, Duke, Brown, etc. I think that my freshman grades are the only places holding me back from getting in at those schools. Also, I know that UCs ignore freshman year grades, so hopefully I could get in to UCB or UCLA.

With your GPA, your SAT has to be 2250+ not 2150+ … I’d even go as far as to say you need about 2300+ to have a good shot. But I agree with FM - Ivy Leagues are probably out of reach for you, but then again, nobody ever really knows! Ivy Leagues are tricky like that. To compensate for the freshman year grades, you might want to write an essay about some of the things you went through to explain why you received such grades.

This has made me depressed. I thought colleges do not care too much about freshman grades. Oh well, I can still get in to top UCs.

Are there any other colleges which ignore freshman year?
