Is this junior ivy bound? (with a slight problem) I'LL CHANCE YA FOR AN OPINION

I'm an asian junior. I'm going for ivies/good schools. My problem is that freshman year, I messed up really bad and didn't care, with my gpa being in the high 80's (school doesn't use 4.0 scale). Sophomore year, I got more serious and had about a 95, and junior/senior year I'm on track to have a 96-97 (all these averages are unweighted of course). But still my GPA as of now is a 92.5, and by the end of this year it may go up to a 94. I'm taking the most APs/honors classes my school offers. However, due to freshman year, my rank/gpa is not as high as I would like it to be (still in the top 10% but barely). I just took my SAT in Jan, and I'm sure I got at least a 2200+, although the optimist in me is confident that I got over a 2300 due to my last 5 or 6 practice tests. I'm not going to get into the grueling details, but my EC's are pretty solid as well. Of course I have 100's of volunteer hours, presidency/founding, summer internships and even a couple unique ones that will show I'm passionate (I love hip hop and fashion, I've done small work in the music business/DJed and even done a bit of modeling). How badly will my freshman grades hurt me/how much do colleges scrutinize GPA/rank? Should I do anything more to improve my chances? Thanks homies

Oh and I’ll chance anyone kind enough to drop some knowledge and read my long post :)

I don’t think your freshman GPA will you hurt you as much as you think. Just keep improving and make sure you got high SAT scores! Good luck :)

Well poor freshman grade will not be devastating as long as you can show you have an upward trend, which you do. If you can get a 2200+ on the SAT then that makes you academically qualified for Ivy’s. As for ECs you seem to be in good standing if you have internships and leadership roles but make sure you have some team-oriented positions too.

@sloth83 what exactly do you mean by “team oriented position”? I played a couple sports throughout high school but this year I dropped them to focus on academics

Well colleges love leadership roles but they also want to know that you can work well with others. Sports are a good example.

An upward trend always helps your.position and your ecs are good. Chance me back?

<a href=“Chance Me? I will definately 100% chance you back - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1609142-chance-me-i-will-definately-100-chance-you-back-p1.html</a></p>

Without knowing your specific ECs, I can’t make an accurate estimate. However, if the ECs really are great, you will have a chance of getting in. Moreover, make sure you write a great essay on your freshman year. What did you learn, why did you change your mind etc.

Ivies and great schools are always chance-y, no matter how good you are, so make sure to have some safeties and averages. I think the average schools are the most overlooked schools, especially in America. Good luck!

I’m literally in the same boat as you. Finished with an U/W Freshman GPA of 89 W of 94, then got around a 92 sophomore year W:95 and now have around a 93 W:99, while taking all honors/AP, but have remained pretty optimistic about where I’ll end up. Stay positive, work hard to finish junior year strong, have a good senior year, good SATs/ACTs, essays, recs, improve ecs, etc. and you will be fine.
