My first semester at CC I was really depressed and got a D in one of my history classes. The class was later removed from the course catalog and no longer existed to be retaken, probably because it was so terrible. The only other poor grade I've gotten at CC is a C in math, which I took over the summer and really should've just studied harder for.

I'm majoring in comparative lit and my current gpa is about 3.3, but without messing up these two classes I would have about a 3.6. I explained on my UC app how I was depressed and that my history course couldn't be retaken, but will they really take any of this into account after seeing my overall gpa? Have those two classes completely ruined my chances at UCLA UCB? I have extracirriculars, experience in my major, and have completed IGETC and all major prep, but my gpa isn't really competitive.

I've gotten all A's after my first year at cc and also on a study abroad program, but I feel like I really blew it during my first semester. So what are my chances?

Which math class did you get a C in?
I took calc 2 over 4 weeks in the summer and got a B and that might ruin my chances but it was hard. I applied as a geography/environmental science major at ucla tho

@ocnative I’ve studied another language for 5+ years, worked with tutoring, stuff like that.

And I got a C in precalc, which was the last math I needed. I took it more than 2 years after my previous math class and I had forgotten almost everything. I kind of wish I just got a D in it so I could retake it, but then I probably wouldn’t have been eligible for TAG.

I’d have to get academic renewal on the entire semester, but it would definitely bring my GPA up a lot. Do UC’s actually take academic renewal into account? And since I’ve already turned in my app in November, would they actually take notice of it?
