I am working on my transfer applications for fall, 2013 term.
I have taken 51 credits of classes last year.
out of those classes, 15 are calculus, 6 prerequisite computer programming, 5 prerequisite chemistry classes are the only somewhat technically related subjects.
the other classes i have taken are from english (10), psychology, art, and music (5's).
i am planning on transferring into engineering schools, and will take chemistry series, physics series, and computer science classes this year.
My final question is have i taken too little engineering related classes, although i have received above 3.8 gpa?
would this lower my acceptance chances?

As long as you’ve completed the required coursework for your major then you should be fine. If you are lacking quite a few classes needed for engineering then you should probably think about applying for fall 2014. It all depends on the schools you’re applying to and what they require from you.

The courses you have now should be sufficient for transfer. Colleges want to make sure you can do well in math/science/engineering courses before accepting you into an engineering program. Of course, they’ll think twice when the 3.8 GPA comes most from the liberal arts side instead of the engineering side.

Getting the calcs down are a big priority, so it’s great that you’ve done that, or most of them (15 credits is about 3-4 classes worth of calc, no?). Depending on where you transfer will gauge how many more engineering-related classes (programming, physics, etc.) you will need to take.

Each school is also different with what they look at when it comes to acceptance, but a 3.8 based on the classes you have taken is very good.

15 credits of calculus is a year worth of calculus. (quarterly academic year system)
I just turned in my application for U-Mich yesterday.
Oh boy, taking physics, chem, and differential equations classes all in a single quarter is definitely tiresome. This quarter is going to lower my overall gpa for sure.
Now that i’m done with U-Mich app, i have to start working on my UC apps.
How are you all doing on your school works and transfer applications?

BTW, how much do you think getting 4.0 in all of the calculus series will contribute to the transfer admission decisions?
