hey guys! sorry for the long delay. Had finals for the past week and realllyyyy needed to study! I know it’s a very stressful time for you guys (only two days left!)! Don’t fret! I’m sure you’ll all did your best on the application process and now it’s just time to wait for admissions to make the descision. Remember that not getting accepted is not a huge deal: it’s NOT (and I repeat NOT) the end of the world. Try again next year. If you get waitlisted, maybe call admissions on monday and tell them how x school was your first choice and it would really humble you to get in (sometimes works). Here’s a story: my friend on the swim team got taken off the waitlist way may because he called admissions, kept on emailing updates, and even wrote a handwritten letter to his interviewer, the head of admissions, and his tourguide.

Best of luck to all of you! and RELAXXX, you deserve it :)

Just pat yourself on the back for the hard work you put into your application! It was all you, i just saod some facts and advice. It was your idea to use those word that i gave and utilize them for tour benifit. If anything, thank YOURSELF :D

so March 10th has passed and applicants have been notified. If there are any questions, please ask! I know it’s a tough time right now, whether you’re contemplating staying on a waitlist or accepting an acceptance, thinking of what to do because you’ve been rejected, or if you’re lucky, contemplating which school to choose for the next year. Please ask, I have nothing else to do over my break :D

If you’re a guy, you have more of a chance of getting a single than a girl. The biggest freshman guys dorm (40 kids) is all singles. The other dorms have a mix of mostly doubles (nathan hale girls dorm has three room doubles!) and singles

Thanks!
Im a girl, (I’ll be a Junior next year, if thats relevant) do we get to choose if we want a single or a double, or is it assigned? Which one would you recommend?
Thanks again! :)

Depends if you want a large or small dorm. If small, I don’t think you have a choice as to getting a double or not (all doubles I think). As for the large girls dorm, Nathan Hale, you might request want to request a single if you plan on doing work in the dorm (many go to the library to do work) because from what i hear, the girls are usually talking and not getting work done in the dorm. Then again, the girls who do have singles find their way to the doubles to hang out. The doubles are usually pretty big, so try and request one of those.

One question, I’ve heard the term “3 room double” in many threads, but what does that mean? A triple? or a double with 3 separate rooms? I don’t really need to know since I will be a day student, but I’m just curious. Thanks!

Three room doubles are essentially doubles with two bedrooms and a common room. It’s nice if you want some privacy but don’t want a single for one reason or another. For freshmen girls, the only three room doubles are in Hale, but there’s quite a few of them. All of the doubles in Hale are either three-room or one-room and those are very small and only in the Annex, I think.
Also, Double Brick only has one-room doubles while Isham has a mix of one-room doubles and singles. Hale houses 42 girls (I think, 5 prefects), Double Brick houses 16 girls (I think, 2 prefects) and Isham houses 17 girls (I think 2 prefects).

Wow, funny you should ask this; I did this exact same thing for the last three summers (except with a brain surgeon at MGH). PM me if you want to know the best approach.

I was going to say that hazing is literally nonexistent in dorms (and it virtually is), but life always has its exceptions and it’s too hard to generalize. That said, you will not see any hazing. I spent a lot of time in nearly ever male dorm on campus (and a few female dorms), and I never once saw hazing. Pranks, definitely. Some girl cattiness and gossip, but then it comes down to what your definition of hazing is.

I absolutely loved Andover. I already accepted the admission, but I went anyways. It was just awesome. Everyone was so nice, helpful, and friendly! The classes were all great too! Just because there wasn’t an oval table, doesn’t mean people didn’t participate, everyone was involved in the classes. Can’t wait for September!

bshope3: whoa calm it down, we get you have school pride but no need to bash on their rival school lol. Some people may prefer other teaching methods so please do respect that. Yes, I would agree that harkness is effective in english and history, but I did not like it during math/science courses (you really need direction in order to understand the concepts and methods in that type of class so a lecture based discussion is necissary IMO). Just please, if you’re going to discourage people to going to ANY school, I kindly suggest you take it to another thread. Your first post was great, second one was not necessary at all…

andover2016: glad you like revisit day! hopefully you got a sense of what life is like on campus during the week. The whole goal for revisit day was to integrate the admits into a normal school environment so they can see whether or not PA is the place for them. Hopefully we did a good job at it!

Hey swim dude I got into Andover and am planning to come as a new lower next year. Currently I have all 98-100 at my school. Will Andover be a big struggle for me. I have good discipline and time management, but I just hear all of these stories about kids with perfect grades going to Andover and flunking out.

Hey! I honestly can’t say whether or not it will br a struggle for you or not. For me, i struggled because i wasn’t used to independence and fooled around too much in the fall. I then learned to control myself and now have pretty stellar grades! And yes i was the kid who had straight A+ in middle school. As ling as you can control yourself, you should be fine!
