Hello!
I just recently ran across University of Minnesota, and I can't believe how much of a match it seems to be for me. I hadn't looked into many out of state schools (I live in Illinois) since tuition is usually so high, but U of M doesn't seem like too steep of a price. It also has a great media program, which is what I plan on majoring in.

I have just completed the application and sent it in, but then I noticed the website said it requires ACT with writing. Hardly any schools in Illinois require this, and mainly students get told that it's not too big of a deal to NOT take it, and it saves money. I wanted to apply early, but will I need to retake the ACT? The next one is in February, which seems so late. Should I just send my scores without the writing (for now at least)?

I'm sorry if this has been asked, but I'm unsure what to do from here. I plan on calling the office on Monday.

Thank you so much in advance!

I think that you’re out of luck. UM requires the writing portion and November was the last test date for fall 2013 enrollment.

There are quite a few schools that require writing so I think you got some bad advice.

Thank you for the reply, although it is what I hoped I wouldn’t hear

If I were to take it in December (as a stand by) would I be able to apply after the early deadline? I see the priority deadline is December 15, but do they allow any afterwards?

Here’s what it says on the UMN website:

ACT OR SAT

The exams offered in October are the last opportunity to take the ACT or SAT and have the official scores sent to us before the December 15th application deadline. To send your official scores to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, use the codes listed below. We will consider your best overall score when we make your admission decision.

You can call admissions and see if you can get some special dispensation, but I think that you missed the window.

I would like to post an update for anyone who might find this helpful–

I called the University and they said they would not make me retake the ACT with writing since I have already taken/paid for it. I just sent in the score without writing, and it was accepted. I cannot tell if it hurts my chances at all- but they did take the application!

Future references to all of you Juniors-- take the writing when you get the chance!!
