Have you been personally affected by drunk driving/DUI? Do you know someone who has?

Hi, fellow Gators!

My name is Rachel. I'm a student in the College of Journalism and Communications here at UF. I'm currently working on a multimedia piece about drunk driving. I realize this is a very sensitive topic, especially since I would really like to talk to people who have had personal experiences related to drunk driving. Perhaps they or loved ones were harmed or even killed by this behavior.

However, this is an important issue, especially relevant to people in our age group. I would like to present it in a way that has more impact than the typical barrage of statistics.

So, if you have a story you would like to tell or know someone who might, please PM me so we can arrange to talk further. Thanks!

Rachel

Yeah, I got a DUI back in september and it is really expensive and kind of depressing. Worst part is that I only drank two cans of Bud Light before I had to drive 6 blocks to pick up a buddy. Always check your tail lights. Going through the system it right now.

TWO beers landed you in jail for Dui, B.S.—
The law states, if one is over 21, one can drink and drive as long
as one’s faculties are not impaired to the point that one cannot drive
a motor vehicle safely. The general prima level for impairment for an alcohol
based arrest is .08% or above, ( under .049% is considered not DUI .05% - .079% is possible impairment) and no way can one obtain a .08% with two beers.
Unless you are under 21 then you shouldn’t be drinking
anyways, let alone drinking and driving.

FYI ( for you here that are over 21 and care to drink and drive) General rule - BAC is about .015% - .025% per ounce of alcohol consumed for an average sized healthy adult, thus your reading was not above a .05% with two beers in you. One can of beer = 1 ounce, 1 shot = 1 ounce.
Glad you got busted before screwing someone else over.

You can also write about the consequences. That’s whats scariest.

CORNandTOOTHPICK: That’s what I would like to do, getting personal perspectives from people who’ve been most affected by those consequences. Are you speaking from an experience?

Rachel,
I cannot PM you due to lack of posts but I would be willing to talk with you. My sister was killed by a drunk driver. You can try Pming me or getting up to the number of posts needed also.

Wis3over: Since you have email enabled, I tried sending you a message that way. I hope you got it! Thanks.

2 beers and a few shots and maybe some weed got me a DUI. Take it easy MR. Technical guy

Fortunately, I haven’t had personal experience with this. I keep my nose pretty clean for the most part.
