have you been rejected and then successfuly persuaded college to admit you?

Has there ever been an instance where someone has been rejected then he/she successfully persuaded the college to admit them?
I am furious of being rejected to some of my colleges and want to write a sarcastic or maybe pleading letter to the college. any suggestions? any stories?

which colleges are you talking about? did you get accepted anywhere? What are your stats?

I believe you can appeal it, however, you have to have a good excuse for the reason why they did not admit you (example: death in the family and getting lower grades) and it it pretty lengthy.

It's best to accept the rejections and move on.

Accepting the rejections, haha ironic.

Has anyone heard of a situation where someone was rejected but then offered a place on the waitlist and then accepted?

It doesn't matter too much about chances. I'm still going to write a pleading letter to my first choice, nothing left to lose.

Very few schools will consider an appeal of a rejection. The final decisions are, well, final. An exception are the UCs. You can appeal a UC rejection, but it seldom succeeds, and the appeal must be based new information that was not available on the application.

Well I wrote a letter to one of rejection school, I told the school how my mom and I wanted to visit the school before my decision but unable because unexpected sickness from my grandmother. Which she passed away just about two weeks ago and how tough it been on my family. I tried to show them how badly I wanted to go there and I haven't heard anything from them yet. I'm hoping and praying that the school will change their mind.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. What is UCs?

I am sorry to hear about your grandmother, but your not visiting right before the decision would not have had any impact on your decision. Many dont get the chance to visit the schools to which they are applying.
I think that the only basis for a decision being changed might be where SAT scores were wrongly reported by collegeboard, and the school did not get the new scores in time on the fault of college board. Or, perhaps a student was told by a school they were likely to be accepted and they were not, but there was no change in grades ect. That type of thing.

You could always try writing a letter like the following:

April 2, 2007

Undergraduate Admissions Committee
Department of Admissions and Enrollment
Harvard University
86 Brattle St.
Cambridge, MA 02138

Dear Committee Members:

Thanks for your letter of April 1. After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your rejection at this time.

This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually large number of rejection letters. With such a varied and promising field of schools, it is impossible for me to accept all refusals.

Despite your outstanding record and previous experience in rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet my current career needs. Consequently, I will begin taking classes as a graduate student in your department this August. I look forward to seeing you then.

Best of luck in rejecting future applicants!

Sincerely Yours,

It's pretty old; it was written for the NYT several years ago. Although there have been rumors of people sending it in, I don't think anyone has.
