Rejection appeal?

I posted before that I had to withdraw from UCI due to medical reasons. My family and I have come to a decision that it would be best for me to study here in San Diego because moving out would be difficult given my condition. UCSD rejected me but I called admissions and they said to write a letter of appeal and they might reconsider admission. I asked about going to a CC in the meantime but they said that if I do that I'll lose my status as a UC undergrad and I'll change into a transfer student. I don't want to go to CC if I can already get in. Has anyone ever tried this before?

Here's an article I read that I found interesting that talks about admission appeals
<a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5626556/site/newsweek%5B/url%5D">http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5626556/site/newsweek</a></p>

I need help writing this letter. Can you give me some tips? Is there a good site with guidelines or a sample letter I can use write a strong letter of appeal? This means a lot to me. Thanks a lot.

I'll bump this.

No one? I'll post up my rough draft soon to see if I can get some feedback. I'll just omit the personal stuff, my condition is pretty unique so it probably doesn't matter anyways. I plan to take to UCSD tomorrow in person, so I need help!

You know, I've never written a rejection appeal, but I would simply and precisely explain my situation, what it would mean to me to be accepted to UCSD, my reasons for wanting to go to UCSD, and why I need an appeal of my rejection. Other than that, just be as candid and honest as possible. That would be my advice, but I've never been in a situation like this, so definitely take this with several grains of salt.

Thanks. I'm trying to cover all the bases in this letter. I must have spent like 3 hours now. It's hard putting this in words. I think its coming out pretty good though.

wow, good luck. i hope everything works out well for you.

I would strongly advise you to talk with your high school GC, even though you are no longer a high school student. It seems likely that a GC at a California high school would have been involved in helping a number of students mount UC appeals over the years, and s/he might have a solid idea of what does and doesn't work. Perhaps the GC could help you formulate and review the letter. If this GC is not available, if it is financially possible, it might make sense to have maybe only one session with an experienced private admissions counselor who has specific experience with appeals. Someone in San Diego might have particular expertise in dealing with the local U.C. I also wonder if someone in the dean of student's office at Irvine could help, possibly by contacting a counterpart at San Diego to talk about your situation just to help smooth the way. Good luck!!!

Thanks. I thought about it. My GC from High School is a UCSD Alumnae. I know she knows some people that work there too so I'm definitely going to see if she can help me. It's already Friday though so I'll just try to strengthen my letter as much as I can and check it out with her on Monday. My parents are really stressing me out though, they keep trying to make revisions that I think aren't helping at all. I know time is against me being on such short notice since they start school next month, but theres no use in rushing things.

If you want to PM me the letter I'll read it this weekend....
