Have You Ever Broken A Bad Habit?

I have a bunch of bad habits that just seem impossible to break, such as overeating, bad time management, organization, and sleep. I try so hard to break them, but it sometimes seems insormountable. Therefore, I was wondering whether anyone here has ever broken a bad habit. If so, what was the bad habit? How did you break it? And how long did it take?

Nail biting. Took a week. Just didn't bite anymore.

I am definitely a compulsive snacker. I don't think I've completely broken the habit but I've started getting into drinking water whenever I want a snack when I'm not hungry. I think it's been about a month and a half or something. I still snack, but it's a lot less. It might help with your overeating to drink more water (or something) during meals.

I've always had pretty good time management but I noticed that when I stopped listening to ANY sort of music while I study, I tend to focus a lot more. And if possible, study away from the computer (or at least try not to use it) since that's what usually distracts me.

I'm also a fan of "organized chaos." I file all my school papers into labeled folders and put (okay..maybe throw) most of my clothes in bins/drawers (not closets since I don't hang anything since I'm WAY too lazy).

As for sleep, set a bed time. Make it MANDATORY to follow (unless you have a huge final or test) which should help with your time management. I like to read before going to bed since it makes me sleepy and I fall asleep a lot faster. Since it's summer you could probably try sleeping a little earlier so by the time school comes around you're more adjusted to that schedule.

I try but wanking > me

i also was a snacker. this takes constant vigilance. i find that eating dinner as early as possible keeps me from snacking between coming home and dinnertime. And also brushing my teeth right after dinner so im not tempted to eat anything more.
anyway, i broke the bad habit of...not exercising. now i run for 20-30 minutes each day. not a lot at all, but intervals >.<

I was a snacker. Still am. Don't really care, although I hear that it's a sign of deeper mental problems. -_-;

Otherwise, going on the Internet when I'm supposed to be doing more productive things. Like I am right now. So no, I guess didn't break that habit either.

lol ferstammendment...dont beat urself up about it :D (sorry about the pun)

When I was a kid (like 11) I used to have this disgusting habit of taking my thumb and index finger on my right hand, rub it back and forth on the 2 sides of my mouth and smell it. Yes, smell it. I used to do it all the time, especially after eating Tuna sandwiches.

I stopped by stopping. I haven't done it since :)

Nail biting......

I don't do that anymore.

mozilla, that's a little weird, but when i was little i would scratch the sides of my mouth a lot for some reason and once they got infected, gross little kid habits!

Ye, so many stupid little habits when we were kids. lol.

One habit of mine I still have is staring. Like, my eyes just wander around alot. when I walk on the street, I have to look at something, so it's usually someone else. So, in other words, I have a staring problem. And when I force myself to look away, it looks so unatural , so in the end I just flop my eyes all over the place and look like a freak.

wth...

When I was like.. 5 - 9 years old, I would have like these random habits that would last a few months each. One was where I would crack my knuckles. Another one would be where I would like... flick a table or something and make a song. lol Yeah.. it was weird...

snacking isn't a bad thing; in fact its actually better for your metabolism to eat 6 small meals vs 3 big meals.

But, have you guys ever gotten rid of a REALLY BIG bad habit, such as procrastination, laziness, or bad time management.

I'm sure they're talking about non-healthy snacks. It's not like they're snacking on carrots and celery. It's probably like pop tarts and taquitos.

I got rid of drinking pop................ Bad habit to me. Seriously. :p

As I get deeper and deeper into my teenage years, well months I guess, I'm not even 14, I feel like I'm getting lazier and lazier. Maybe it's just because it's summer. Hopefully I'll snap out of it.

I'm going to the library tomorrow! Finally something to do...:)

Actually, it's the total opposite for me.
The older I get, the less lazy I get.

Like, I would never had the patience to study 3 months for ANY test a couple of years ago. Regardless if it was the SAT.

I used to suck my thumb when I was little, but I could only do it when I had my blanket. When I was 5, my parents threw away the blanket :( and the habit was broken

I used to suck my Index and middle fingers ALL the time. You couldn't see my fingers being seperated from my mouth. Ever. I sucked it so much that I had BIG indentations on my fingers. I stopped (still don't know how or why) when I was 6. That's why I used to becalled 'buck-tooth beaver' untill I got bracis. I couldn't keep my mouth closed because my 2 front teeth looked so big. After having braces for 4 years, my 2 teeth don't stick out anymore :) (I had braces when I was 8. That's how bad it was)
