<p>My sign that I won't get into Cornell is fact that I never handed in an application.</p>
<p>wow, i think we should all get in just for arguing about something like those...shows how committed we are</p>
<p>but isn't the zip code for Cornell 14851/14850 though?</p>
<p>

you guys are so hyped up you were willing to believe the USPS is psychic and knows about the letter they'll be sending you <em>4 days</em>
[/quote]
The USPS is not psychic about the letters, they already know. Because when you are sending 2,000 express-mail letters, you can not just put the stamps on them and flood the post office with the letters, you first have to notify the post office. The letters have already been prepared, regardless if you are admitted or rejected, they will send you something and therefore they have already made a commitment to send you letter on 14th of December.
This certainly shows us that a letter from Cornell is going to be arriving at our addresses on 15th of December (14 + one day delivery). Even if you have 1 million ED applicants living in your area, and at least 1 person was accepted, the computer would only show 2 letters because the letters are identical and the computer would not display the same (essentially) letters 1 million times.
Now the question is: why 2 packages? Notice the time differences and 2 different addresses, they are certainly going to be 2 separate letters. But why 2? I think if you are accepted, you would receive 2 letters: one stating of your acceptance/commitment and the second one about the financial package. If you are rejected/deferred, they would probably send you only 1 letter, that of their decision, and obviously you will not get the financial package.
But there is a trick - if you live in an area where there is more then 1 applicant to Cornell ED, even if you get rejected and your neighbor gets accepted you will see 2 letters coming to your zip code. That is because computer looks for the number of distinct letters coming into an area, and because acceptance/rejection letters are e-mailed from the same address, on the same date, and in similar envelope, the letter of acceptance is essentially the same as the letter of rejection. And because your supposably accepted neighbor is receiving a financial package, your zip code will receive a net of 2 distinct letters.
If however you are the only one in your district, things are easier. If there are 2 letters coming your way, you are accepted. If you are the only applicant in your district and you only see 1 letter, you are probably rejected/deferred.
I think that my theory is very plausible, but this is a theory, after all.</p>
<p>i actually had a dream last night and i looked it up in a dream dictionary haha i know lame but i was driving (shows confidence) on a smooth highway (life is going well, but there were these really high hills like the up of a roller coaster that i had to drive on (struggles to achieve goal- obviously true), but i did reach the top (success) and suddenly it became smooth and then it came to a fork (a decision i'll have to make- hopefully something good) and i chose the one on the left and that led to a HUGE orange door (means opportunities opening). so hopefully that all points to an acceptance letter on thursday! =)</p>
<p>wow that was really lame but i just had to post it haha</p>
<p>oh and i feel like something's inaccurate, i'm making up zip codes right not and typing in ones from utah, wyoming, hawaii and every place i've typed in so far is getting two packages. of course it's definitely a posibility, but what are the chances of that?</p>
<p>even a place called ismay, montana with 26 inhabitants is getting 2 letters</p>
<p>man.........what is wrong with this USPS site? Sillyrabbit you are right! Why is it showing all of this nonsence?</p>
<p>ktoto. I hope your conjecture is not true...because mine only shows one letter.
OMFG.</p>
<p>if you don't mind me asking what's your zipcode</p>
<p>no wait. I just figured it out..lol. nvm. This thing is totally BS. I reversed where I placed my origin and destination zip code as opposed to everybody else..hahaa. Now I see the two packages too...and no...this doesn't mean anything.
Cos this is what usps says:
An Express Mail® Service Commitment guarantees a delivery date and time for your Express Mail service mailing. Just give us your origin and destination ZIP Code™, and the date the package will be shipped. We'll let you know where and when to ship your package and how soon it will be delivered (Next Day, Second Day, or Second Delivery Day, depending on the service commitment that was given at the time of acceptance). Guaranteed, or your money back.</p>
<p>And the two addresses that we get are just the address of the post offices in Ithaca...lame.</p>
<p>asianjewel: did you apply for $$$$ aid??????? and is it possible that you're the only one from your area that applied?</p>
<p>EDIT: nevermind</p>
<p>ok ok...i concede that if some people are seeing one and some people are seeing two...that could be evidence that there's something to this. It seems weird to me though that even if they knew they would be shipped on the 14th, I agree...i'm sure they know ahead of time...that they would let you know that anyway. It really seems like they're just telling you how long it would take to get to you. But anyway, I see two on my screen and I'm the only one that I know of in my city.....</p>
<p>NEVER MIND EVERYBODY! I said I put my zip code in the origin place instead of the destination place. And I finally figured out that's what everybody else is doing..so I GOT TWO AS WELL.
HENCE, I DON'T THINK THIS MEANS ANYTHING!</p>
<p>exactly, i don't think UPS would let this leak...</p>
<p>Did anyone realize that 14850 is also the zip for Ithaca College?</p>
<p>ooooo, that makes sense now. maybe both colleges are sending stuff out?
anyways, WHO CARES ABOUT MAIL!! IM CHECKING ONLINE!! lol</p>
<p>gotta love the progress with computadoras!!!</p>
<p>aw.....
i was hoping that this would be a sign...</p>
<p>i was all getting excited and getting adrenalin rush...</p>
<p>hmm</p>
<p>hmm then i wonder why some people got 1 package
and some got 2 (i got 2)</p>
<p>interesting...
really hoping this is true, but as the service explanation said
it's just a gurantee program or w/e so..</p>
