Cheese waffle. It’s sort of a rage right now in the low carb world. I’m not eating it because it’s low carb but because it’s DELICIOUS! I love a savory waffle.
And you can make it in a flash.
Use a non stick waffle iron.
Mix:
1 egg
1/2 c. shredded cheese (I’ve been using largely cheddar)
1 T flour (almond if you’re doing low carb)
Pour mixture on a hot waffle iron. Press until crisp. Eat!
Super filling. I am full after 1/2 of a full sized waffe. Great with an egg on top. Would be great for chicken and waffles. Or with pesto on it - or salsa!
Low carb people also use the chaffle in place of bread for sandwiches.
I was disappointed in it! They look so great in all the pictures, but mine was just a funny shaped egg. I didn’t put any flour in mine, because I’m keto, so that was probably the difference.
I tried a caulifower waffle, but it was pretty much a disaster - I feel like I greased it enough, but it stuck to the waffle iron and had to be dug out.
@NYC2018nyc , there are all kinds of keto waffle recipes. Some use almond flour, some may use coconut flour. You can probably find tons of them on Youtube.
I’m a low carb eater and am a chaffle fan. I typically don’t try waffle recipes, because it is such a mess to clean, but the chaffle has not been messy at all. The texture is great which is why I like it. I do add one teaspoonful of almond flour, which yes, is a low carb flour so should be fine for keto.
@TS0104 have you tried various cheeses - or do you think with a certain one?
Also reminding that I personally do not do this for keto or low carb…I just make them because they are delicious! And crisp right up putting leftovers in the toaster the next day. They don’t get as “floppy” as some waffles do as they sit.
I’ve done a couple things… an egg, a little butter/honey. I think herbs would make it tasty, pesto, salsa, as I mentioned literally use it like a sandwich with turkey or any sandwich items inside. Would also be FANTASTIC dipped in tomato soup!
There would be a lot of calories in this, what is the aim? No fiber, high calories, high fat (you can use cottage cheese in other versions at least, high protien and you can sneak in some oat fiber powder). Low carb junk alternatives to junk food that have no redeeming features baffle me.
