I was wondering whether anyone had heard anything about the national merit or national achievement program for 2009, some friends from my school got a letter that said that had got commended. Did anyone else get anything?

I received a letter about two weeks ago from National Merit, it doesn't say what I'll be yet (commended or semifinalist), of course. I didn't get anything from National Achievement, though, and neither did any of my friends who qualify for that.

Why wouldn't you recieve a letter?

I have no idea, but I didn't get anything from National Achievement, just National Merit.

Are you black? Bc if not then that explains why. but i did not recieve anything either.

I got national merit 2 weeks ago. I'm not of African descent, so NM was all I got.

congratulations

Haha, yeah I am black, but they still never sent me anything. No one else that I know got anything either so...hopefully I will and you will too!

here's hoping. Btw what did you get on the psat?

hey, i got a letter from national merit inviting me to pick two colleges of my choice....but i don't know if my score's high enough to qualify for semifinalist (probably not, since i took the test in NJ, but I live in CT now).

I got a 201; what did you get?

213......99th percentile nationwide...but then, it's prob too low for new england area. :(

I got a 197. It was 95th percentile.

197 and 95th percentile is a great score that you should be proud of - congrats! Unfortunately the cut-off this year for commendation is 200 though

Ok, so people definitely don't know the difference between National Merit and National ACHIEVEMENT. Achievement is only for African-Americans, whereas Merit is for everyone. Just putting that out there.
