Have you heard of anyone being admitted to michigan this way? Sounds fishy to me.

One of my friends said he got in to michigan on some sort of trial basis. He has to like complete some classes in the summer and then he will be officially accepted. His grades and scores are quite a bit bellow those of most people accepted to michigan. I've never heard of this program. He's also loaded, his dad owns a multi million dollar company. If this is legitimate that's great, I've just never heard of it. Have you? Do you know what it's called?

Yeah, that’s the Summer Bridge Program. People get in there if they have some sort of “hook” that UMich wants to harness, but not the grades to support an acceptance.

Totally true. I know of someone personally whose daddy is a big shot lawyer that graduated for Michigan Law. She had a 25 on her ACT and a 4.0. Girl was deferred, daddy called up and talked to the right people, bang she is in the Summer Bridge Program.

It happens in all elite universities, not just UMich. If students have multi-million finances, parent alumnis that give back a LOAD of $$$ for buildings to be built there, the school opens the “backdoor” for them … such as the Summer Bridge program, or even the regular school itself.

Just this year, on the Harvard University RD 2016 decisions thread, there was a Nepalese applicant with low stats that even the top 30 schools were reaches (GPA/SAT) but was admitted anyway because his parents are multi-millionaire alumni who donate money to Harvard each year. In fact, the Dean of Harvard College Admissions, William Fitzsimmons, personally called his parents to assure the admission. It happens all the time if you’ve got the financial strings to pull to do it.

In fairness, it’s not just the wealthy that benefit from summer bridge, and it’s not just about alumni giving power. Lots of kids from tough school boards/urban areas/or tough situations also are invited to Summer Bridge.

I have been accepted to the bridge program and my parents didn’t even attend college! They are no where near millionaires. I have decent grades
3.6 GPA
25 on Act

His gpa is bellow a 3.0
