Through the college search process D1 was in communications with recruiters from a couple of schools, but most were not leveraged in any meaningful manner.

In starting the process for D2 I figured it was worth reaching out in each time we make a campus visit to at least say, 'Hey, going on campus, are you going to be on my HS campus, would like to meet you'.

OU was one of the schools we had NOT contacted before, probably because the NM office plays that roll (+) so very well. I sent email to local contact yesterday and got a reply today. It included links to some scholarships buried in the web site so deep I had not found them as well as info on when she will next be on D2 HS campus.

Has anyone else used the UO recruiter as a resource and if so how did it go? Value added?

S1 has worked with the regional recruiter, but had more interactions with the National Scholars liaison. The advantage with the regional people is that they know the area and the HS so they can relate a bit that way. In his case it did not help so much as far as getting in because as an NMF he was assured. It was more about helping him feel wanted. I was surprised by my own kid and how much it mattered to him to feel wanted by the school. That is the big reason he chose OU over Bama as his safety school (knowing that he was most likely going to the safety for the scholarship).

@torveaux…I was also surprised by how much it mattered to my son to feel really wanted by OU. They do roll out the red carpet for those NM kids. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere on this forum, that does not stop once they are enrolled. I’ve been so impressed with the support the NM office gives to the NMS.

Even when a student is an upperclassman it doesn’t stop. Last week I took a road trip with one of my junior NMF friends. She commented that if there was ever anything she needed, she could just go to the honors college and get personal advising without having to worry about time limits or anything of the sort.
