Haven't taken chemistry in high school, have some questions.

During high school I've taken Honors Biology and AP Physics, and now I'm taking AP in my senior year. I would have taken chemistry this year but it conflicted with my calculus class, which I definitely held in priority. I would take it at my town's local junior college next semester too, but the hours conflict with my high school schedule, and I don't see myself getting into the class this summer (full time students at the college get priority seats in classes). Essentially, as far as I can see, I've exhausted all possibilities of taking chemistry before college.

I'm planning on majoring in CS, and I was wondering if this would have any impact on my application. Even better, I'd like to know if I have any other options, such as online classes or local summer classes (I live in the Bay Area). The main schools I'm applying to are Stanford, Harvey Mudd, Pomona, and Princeton. I know Harvey Mudd specifically requires chemistry, but they can conditionally accept you if you take chemistry the summer before you go, so I'd really like to figure out a way to do so. Can anybody help?

College chemistry courses often assume that the student has had high school chemistry, so if you take a college chemistry course without high school chemistry, you may have to work a bit harder. However, a CS major generally won’t have to take a college chemistry course unless the school requires it as a general education requirement (Harvey Mudd, MIT, Caltech) or if the student also wants to fulfill pre-medical or similar course requirements.

There are a number of fine schools for CS that are not “reach for everyone” type of schools like the four you list.

If you wish to take a chemistry course during the summer, check the local community colleges.

Would a 2 unit Chem 100 class possibly fill this requirement?

I’m confused, there are no night chem classes in the Bay Area?

For someone applying to very top colleges, you’re not using your noodle. This is a big whole at top colleges, enormous with your focus, I’m not sure how you made it to senior year without getting this figured out.

While nothing will be perfect at this point, there are online classes including AP, many CCs in the Bay Area, summer programs…

If you talking about admissions requirements, ask the school you are applying to about whether a specific course will fulfill the admissions requirements.

Check out BYU’s online courses for high school credit. Many students at my school in similar situations have happy with them.

Online lab class? How would this work for full credit?

They’re like “digital” labs, I think… It explains it on the website, I believe.
