I applied ED after really loving an overnight. This forum seems a bit dead and but I've been looking at it to see if anybody else was in the same position as me. Anybody else?

yeah me too

Yes! I am very anxious to hear back… So what are your main reasons for committing as an Early Decision applicant?

Well like I said before I visited and did an overnight and really loved it; the atmosphere was great and everyone was really friendly and accommodating.

I want to play tennis in college, and Haverfords one of the top schools I could do that at, tennis is the main factor which narrowed my list down to Haverford.

The academic program goes without saying I guess, I also like the proximity to Philly and NY and the opportunity to take classes at Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore and Penn. I’m from Ohio so going to school where more stuff is going on would be great.

How about you? I’m also very anxious, I go back and forth as to whether I’ll get in or not.

yeah i applied early too. i cant wait to hear back. only 15 more days.

Ya that’s crazy.

what do you guys think you wanna study in school?

Maybe English but I’m not really sure.

Tennis, eh? I’m almost sure you met my suitemate then, ha!

Best of luck, bud. Haverford’s a great place!

Thanks, ya, I met some pretty cool tennis players when I was there.

Ikillers, thanks for the thorough response, i loved reading it! I go back and forth as well…
Yes, need not mention the academics! I am applying ED for the Honor Code & well incorporated Quaker heritage… seems to make for a dynamic community and that incredible atmosphere you mentioned, it’s pretty amazing what they have going at Haverford…
Best wishes with your application, 9 days!!

sfrancus, what do you want to study? I’d like to study most everything that falls into humanities & the social sciences
I’ll have to se how successful I am at that :)

I’d love to see more ED applicants add to this thread!
Good luck to everyone! Looking forward to hearing more from you all

i’m not too sure about what i want to study yet. I guess something similar to you, quail222, about something in the humanities or social sciences. I’m interested in taking courses in psychology, sociology, and philosophy, as i have not had chances to at my high school. I’m also very interested in the concentration in creative writing.

Have any of you visited the campus or had interviews? Why did you decide to apply early?

I first visited just because it is in the vicinity of other schools i was visiting in october of junior year but happened to fall in love with the school instantaneously. Since then i haven’t seen any school that made me feel the same way.

I imagine myself majoring in Chem or Bio, but who knows, I could have a change of heart and end up doing German. I’ve visited a couple hundred times and did my first interview of all interviews at Haverford. I know what you mean, everything other school just felt “meh” by comparison afterward. I hope they mail on the 10th like they did last year

Checking the mail is gonna be insane.

Yeah I already have plans to leave school at 11:00 next Friday Monday and Tuesday to check the mail

lol really nice, howd you make those plans?

getting a note from my dad or, if necessary, parking my car a block away from the school and sneaking out

SFRANCUS! I am alllll about the courses you’ve listed and the concentration you’re gravitating towards It’s been the same case for me, never had the opportunity at the public school i attended (as far as philosophy sociology & psychology goes)…that’s insane I was going to mention each of those but resolved to be vague haha
…I can imagine we must have many common interests
if all goes as hoped, I look forward to meeting you!

I love seeing that each person’s interest is coming from a good place… it seems that everyone loves the school as much as I do, I hope that passionate love doesn’t make an exception for the Honor Code & Quaker roots (represent)

I must say, it’s a little insane to sneak off campus to peak in your mailbox, but i like it, get some elytron!

You people are making me excited and impatient…

Oh, for those of you who did an overnight visit, I’m curious about the drug/ alcohol scene… I’m hoping that the use of alcohol & drugs won’t be so pervasive, I don’t want there to be too big of a party scene…
as a California resident, I am sick of everyone smoking weed, and I can’t seem to escape it despite my best efforts (Several of my family members smoke)
if any of you could share what you observed about the social scene please share! I am very curious!!!

I did an overnight and got a lot of good perspectives on most parts of student life. In terms of drugs and alcohol, my host student said that it was present but the culture of the Honor Code/Quaker roots permeated into this aspect of student life as well. That is, that you have the freedom to drink and such but if you do not want to partake there is a deep understanding that this is no problem. He actually did not drink himself, and seemed very comfortable with it.

So you think it might come as early as Friday?
Im so nervous…
