Waitlisted! A huge shock because i’ve been getting waitlisted & rejected at much less selective colleges.

3.51 UW w/ extenuating circumstances, no test scores, all DEs and APs school offers, alright ECs for my area

I think my essays are really what pulled me through; in comparison to other ones I wrote they were much better.

I’m glad I still have a shot even if it’s small! I will do my best to write a great LOCI.

Son excited to be accepted and we will be visiting again! The Welcome friends letter was so warm and supportive and I thought the parachuting black squirrels were a fun touch!

I just fell into another Haverford thread from last year, talking about a student strike and issues with equity, spurred on by BLM protests and the administrations apparently less than stellar response. Do any of you know anything about that? I’m wondering if/how that’s affected things on campus this year. We didn’t tour the campus and my son hasn’t talked to any current students, but we are going to tour next week. Conversations about equity at colleges need to happen and changes need to be made; I’d like to hear more about how the administration handled it and if changes have been put into effect.

Tagging @milgymfam who’s a parent of a current Haverford student. I’ve heard from friends with current students that things are much better this year. I’ve been impressed with how the college is addressing the issues raised by the strike, e.g. the THRIVE initiative, however, I’m not a current student or parent, so I wouldn’t give my opinion much weight.
It may be helpful to connect with a current student. You may have found this on the admissions site:

I wouldn’t hesitate to say you want to learn about the current atmosphere on the campus post-strike.

My daughter is a current Haverford student, but unfortunately is not on campus this year; she’s studying abroad for the full year. So, I can’t relay the current campus vibe, but I can say she’s in contact with her friends (and professors) and everything seems to be back to normal. The administration took seriously the reasons behind the strike and have made strides forward, and seemingly continue that work still.

Thanks for much for your response and that link. My son’s juggling a lot of schools right now (both hooray to have great options and ugh for all the time and angst involved in deciding on one college to attend!) and I don’t think he saw that they had a specific option to connect with a current student. I’ll suggest he do that, and I appreciate your encouragement to be direct about questioning the current atmosphere post-strike.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I’m glad to hear your daughter’s friend are reporting the campus atmosphere is ok and that strides have been made to correct issues. These issues , of course and unfortunately, run so deep and go far beyond the boundaries of the campus.

Haverford posted this on their official Instagram page. Their admission rate went from 17.8% for the class of 2025 to 14.3% for the class of 2026. I am pretty sure that this made it the most competitive year in the college’s history.
