Hello. I'm between Haverford, Hopkins and Vassar and have to decide by May 1st, so I just thought I'd throw it out here and see if anybody has any suggestions. I'm pretty much a humanities student, though I'm not set on a major. Hopkins seems to have a great writing program, and Vassar is the only one that has media studies (something I'm interested in but not crucial to my decision). I'm mostly looking for a small environment, though perhaps Haverford would be too small. A city would be preferably, so that's points off for Vassar, and Hopkins is offering me a pretty ridiculous merit scholarship, so that's an obvious plus. One of the things I'm looking for is a quirky student body, (I've addressed this a little on the Hopkins board) sort of like the quirky/nerdy vibe of Swarthmore, if that helps convey what I'm looking for. Hopkins seems pretty devoid of personality as a whole and I especially don't like how many premeds there are, Vassar seems artsy but not necessarily quirky (perhaps somewhat ditzy also) and I don't have much of a sense of Haverford, but it seems more basic than nearby Swarthmore (by the way, I'm pushing to get off the Swat waitlist but have to pick from the 3 in the meantime). I'd prefer a school devoid of all sports, and Vassar seems the least jocky. I'm not sure how Haverford and Hopkins compare here, I get the sense that Haverford is especially jocky for a small school and Hopkins is less jocky than many larger schools, but I'm unclear on how they compare directly. I'm also concerned that fraternity life is too big at Hopkins, whereas it doesn't exist at the others. I probably feel like I know the least about Haverford but if anyone has anything to say on any of the three I'd love to hear it. Thanks.
