He did not send a LOCI. He replied to the email offering a spot on the list and that was the only communication between him and the school. Thank you and good luck to your son as well.
I received my rejection letter an hour ago. They wrote that the class was complete.
Did anyone else receive the rejection letter? I did not receive it. I am unsure as to whether or not the class is full, or if they are only sending that email/portal update to a select group of people. Nothing has changed on my end.
Without having particular insight into Haverford, i would say that if you haven’t heard anything, sit tight.
When they have all the girls for a class, they may let them know they will not be considered further. But they can still be working through filling the last of the seats for boys.
If they have exhausted all the FA (or the FA buckets that would fit you), you may hear that you will not be considered. FP kids on the WL may still be in the running though.
This is, unfortunately, not as straightforward as ED or RD. And they typically reach out to exactly the number of students they need in a given pool and request an answer very quickly so they can move on if the answer is no. It’s stressful. But what is happening for others doesn’t necessarily mean anything for you.
Have not heard anything… sitting tight…
All is left to do is hope for the best! I know all of our kiddos will do well anywhere they go! So trying to help my son prepare for the college he has committed to!
Haverford is an excellent college. My child was offered off the wait list on 5/13. She joined several chat rooms with 2024 accepted students and found two other off the wait list. All three chatted for a while and they had up to Saturday to decide. All three concern was financial, though Haverford was generous with the financial aid, all three had a tough decision. From what my child told me, they felt out of touch and did not connect to the 2024 because they had only four days to decide. They all decided to stay with their respective committed schools. Given the unknown future financially, that was the biggest factor. My kid was really bummed and very disappointed as Haverford was REALLY her first choice. If they came in the beginning…we would have definitively made Haverford the clear cut choice. Good Luck everyone.
So they offer 0 merit if of waitlist? The college is very expensive. My son was offered a very good merit at his college where we committed…
Anyway, we have not heard anything yet…
^ @Scorpio40 , this is a strange year, so anything could happen BUT very very few schools offer merit to WL students. Merit is used to attract the top choice applicants which, by being on the WL, you already know you are not. Where you have committed, otoh, really wants you.
If you need FA, that’s different.
But if you are holding out for an acceptance off the WL with merit money, odds are that you will be disappointed.
I hope, for your sake, that I am wrong…
@Scorpio40 Haverford doesn’t offer merit aid to anyone in any round of acceptances. They’re need-based only. If they take you at any point they meet full need. They’re need-aware though.
No we don’t qualify for any financial aid, only merit…
we still have not received anything from Haverford… so frustrating
Haverford does not have Merit at all. They base their financial on the CSS profile you filled out during the application process. FAFSA is used for federal work study and/or if you qualify for subsidized/unsub loans. They may still be sorting all the acceptances, including the wait list. Merit is pretty much renewable as long as you maintain the GPA. With whats going on, colleges are careful to give more money and families are weary of being able to afford.
How did Haverford let you know about their decision ? Did they email or posted an update at the portal? The reason I am asking is that my son has his school email address listed that he forgets to check, but I do have an access to the portal that I check all the time!
by email
Anyone else got any news from Haverford? We still have not heard anything! So frustrating…, not sure if it means 100% denial since it seems like they have sent out quite a few acceptance letters or it means we have a chance? It is the end of May!
Apologies for joining the conversation late, but I am also on the waiting list for Haverford. I haven’t heard anything from Haverford lately either…
Schools usually let you know when they close their WL. It’s not unusual for kids to be admitted as late as July. It’s also normal for them to reach out only to a few kids at a time.
So they admit a couple students at a time and await their responses? Do they also reject some people at a time? So confusing that they sent both rejection and admission letters to some, but left others hanging… also, when they send emails, do they update portal immediately?
If Haverford offers your student a spot off the waitlist, it sounds like you will be full pay as you said you don’t qualify for need based aid (and Haverford does not offer merit aid).
Would you be able to afford being full pay? It sounds like your student has received merit aid elsewhere, which is great…as long as the net COA is affordable.
I honestly don’t know many people who can afford being full pay at Haverford. My kid is certainly not one of them…
He did receive a great merit aid at another school. I really don’t know why I want to hear from Haverford so much…
So @Scorpio40 … First, thanks for the laugh. I so get it - you get into this process of applying and then waiting, make it a part of your daily ritual, and then at some point, just can’t give it up!
Second… Most schools will go to the exact # of kids the have openings for. This is often a phone call which starts "congratulations ". It quickly progresses to “are you still interested?” and if the answer is yes, it goes to “let us have a decision in 24 hours”. At that point, paperwork goes out and you have a relatively short time to pay the deposit (which is also the chance to decide to stay put where you have already deposited.). If this breaks down anywhere along the way, they go to the next kid on the list. The school is trying to get all its seats filled ASAP so they have the right mix in the class. This is why they may only call boys, or kids who have indicated an interest in x, or who do y.
But as the kid who planned to go to Haverford gets off the WL at Chicago, it creates a new opening. And now, they may need a girl to fill that spot. So there isn’t “another round” of decisions, just plugging holes, a few at a time. It really is impossible to read anything into this.
They may, at some point, let people know the WL has closed. This may not be for everyone on the WL, but if they are approaching full and have an idea of where they don’t have a need, they’ll often say so.
I know one kid who got off a WL in August! But along the way, kids get more committed to where they have planned to go - maybe they have attended an orientation or welcome event, picked classes, talked to their advisor, met roommates. And maybe they get excited about the option in front of them rather than the WL. So yeah, you can wait for the last pieces to fall in place - andthis year, that may be more drawn out than in a non-pandemic year. But at some point, it really will feel like enough is enough.
