Having 2nd thoughts about school

ill try and make this is a short as possible bear with me...

Flash back last year 2012 fall semester I went to a college an hour away from home moving in with some friends from back at home I had high hopes and thought college was going to be awesome! halfway though October I started coming home every weekend, my roommates didn't want to go out and make new friends. So after 1 semester there I dropped out and moved back home and went to community college. I was really happy back at home but didn't do so well at school only completing a few course (story of my life)

Fall 2013 I transfered to a school alot further away that has alot of kids from my hometown go down here I got my own place off-campus (really far off-campus) and have been hanging out with the kids from town, now the first couple months I really liked it here! As things have progressed I had a birthday and turned 22. realizing that im still so far away from a major (atleast 2 years) i wont graduade til im 24 years old!

My major is in criminal justice (Ive changed major's a few times) but ive heard I can get my foot in the door with just an associates degree.

So I want to drop out of the uni (which is so expensive and im running out money have no car no job and live too far to get a job)

Should I quit going now go home and ill basically have my AS degree but I got this lease still pay and I signed for next year (I can find a sublease?)

With that AS I wanted to move to colorado I just think Uni isn't for me

I’m about to commit apostatecy for this forum: Not everyone is cut out for, nor needs a full 4 year degree or even a 2 year one to be successful and happy.

My immediate concern is what job you want to do. You say an AS might ‘get my foot in the door’. For law enforcement e.g. the police, this is true. However, to be promoted further college study is mandatory although you can do this by distance learning.

What’s your GPA at the second school? Don’t let your age be part of the decision. Unless you’re trying to join the military, people graduate at all ages. Some people have taken a gap year before college travelling. Others have been in the marines 6 years before starting so will be 24 year old freshmen. It’s to be expected since you haven’t settled down anywhere.

You don’t appear to be able to focus on your studies. Friends seem to be a major factor on where you study. What do YOU want to do? Your friends will get jobs, move away, have families and you may rarely or never see them. You don’t want to be stuck back home because you tried to stick with them but they moved on.

Some people just haven’t got either the mental maturity or the emotional maturity at 18 or 22 to make the most of college. We all develop at different speeds. Seriously, what do you really want to do with your life, if money was no object?

Lastly, the lease thing is a lesson learned. Could you speak to your landlord and just explain the situation? If its a high demand area, they MIGHT be willing to tear it up. Or be helpful with the sub-let idea. But they might not. You need to start thinking of how you’ll survive that year if you have to live there.

What transport options do you have? Are there buses? Do you have a bicycle? If not, could you borrow one from a friend for a while until money’s better? Could you hire one? How are you getting to uni right now?
