HE GOT IT! Chancellor's Scholarship!!!!

My son got the Chancellors!!! OMG!!!!

Came in a big, FED EX type envelope today. I am SO HAPPY for him! It means he will have an opportunity to do so much more now!!

Hooray and congratulations to anyone else who has heard!

He was the first to interview way back in January! We have been waiting sooooo long for this letter!!

: )

congratulations to your son!

Thanks abc0. It is such a relief! He was so worried about loans and debt and the family EFC was so difficult for us to meet that I think this just takes a huge load off his mind.

Big congrats! He will be very comfortable financially for the next 4 years. Maybe I will see your son next year.

Do you know when he interviewed? I thought they weren’t deciding until around the 15th. I hope this doesn’t mean I’m out of the running already.

He interviewed first…as in the very first kid, first day, first slot. January 26th maybe??

I am betting there are lots of slots AND they asked him to reply right away so they can give it to someone else if he says no…so it sounds like they have a number they are shooting for this year…I am guessing on that though.

I doubt anyone is out of the running. I know you are also considering U of Chicago, right? Will this make the difference for you?

Definitely. If they do not offer me the scholarship, I will be enrolling at Chicago. If they do give the scholarship, well…I’ll still have to give it some thought. An offer like that is almost too good to pass up, but I feel more connected with Chicago’s philosophy and vibe.

Must feel good to finally know though! Congrats again!

Silvy

My son feels exactly the same way but the offer was too good and this way he won’t have debt which would be a relief going into med or grad school. Chicago is pretty great, though, and I am sure he will be sad to send the decline form in.

Congrats to your son!

Congrats to your son! I’ll be honest, I was rooting for him…I’m 95% going to pitt, though I was recently accepted to Columbia and Penn…I’m glad to know another really brainy person is going :)

Thank you! What a nice thing to say! He is checking out the dorms right now in case he doesn’t get Forbes.

Anyone know anything about Towers A vs B?

Congrats Jamiecakes! We know how you feel now. We felt the same when our daughter won the Boettcher scholarship that gives her a full ride to about 17 colleges in Colorado. We now have to choose between instate schools versus Wash U where D got almost no aid.
D wants to do pre-med. It will be interesting to know your thoughts on PITT Versus UChicago. Congrats to your son once again. You must feel proud.

I think we are still waiting to hear from several CCers who interviewed

Semi-alaskan: good news they specifically mentioned that they really liked that my son was double majoring in a science and philosophy. I see you are doing something like that too? Could be a good thing for you too!

Anon don’t you have a full tuition too? My son will also be glad there are lots of Honors College kids to get to know…his current group of friends are a smart group and I am sure he is looking to find a similar camaraderie at Pitt.

Congratulations to your daughter! Wow, so many places to choose from, how wonderful!

Finally some GOOD FA news…

jamiecakes, yes i have full tuition (didn’t get an interview for chancellors…odd…but…they probably figured that had me from two visits, and they were right!)

Hello everyone. My mom has been doing all the posting lately but I thought I would chime in (I am Jamiecakes’s son). I am excited to meet all of you who are going to Pitt and especially the UHC. I know I am really looking forward to the next 4 years. Feel free to post here or to PM me if you have any questions about my interview or anything else for that matter. I hope to see you all next fall!

I might be going to UPitt (full tuition) if my parents decide they don’t want to pay 220k+ for either Yale or Stanford. I’m not too bummed about it though, Pitt’s a great school too =]

Congrats to all the winners!

A friend down the hall from my office has a S who is graduating from Pitt this year (Chancellor’s Scholarship). He has had a wonderful experience and would not have traded it for anything. He’s off to grad school (fully funded) in the fall.

Congratulations! You must be thrilled. The suspense is absolutely killing me, so hopefully I can join you in the good news soon! I interviewed on February 2nd I believe, so it’s not too much longer!

Congratulations again!

Congratulations!!!

Hi First post here- Congrats.

My son did not get an interview- however full tuition is still quite a draw. He is torn between Pitt BC Honors and Cornell. From the looks of it Pitt Honors College and the school itself has many of us interested. We are going to “Cornell Days” next w/e and BC on the 18. Will prob do a second visit back to Pitt to decide. May 1 is coming fast.

The full ride certainly slam dunks the decision for you I am sure- must feel nice.
