Headphones

As headphones have grown significantly in recent years, I think having a discussion about headphones would be fun...

Currently I use two headphones, My Beyerdynamic DT990 premium - 600ohms and my V-Moda M100. I also use a FiiO e7/e9 combo.

I enjoy my DT990s a lot, as it just leaves me astonished whenever i'm listening to a well-recorded album. It's also very comfortable however since its an open headphone I have my second pair for portable use...

...the V-Moda M100s. the M100s are V-Moda's most comparable headphones to Beats ($310, and the M-80 model is comparable in price to the Beats solo). I Pre-ordered it, got it in December, and have been using it heavily ever since. Coming off my previous closed-back headphones I did notice an improvement with the M100s, but not a whole world of difference, but still a positive way and it justifies its price with its sound. It has a bass-emphasis but its not overwhelming and in line with what a lot of people seem to enjoy and the frequency response isn't too skewed. Comparing the build quality to the Beats makes the Beats look like a joke. The M100 is a very durable metal construction, in contrast with the plastic of Beats. And then from sound comparisons I have done, the M100s won significantly.

I've also owned the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro in the past, which had adjustable bass response which was an interesting characteristic to me however it was just too large.

And then I've also owned a pair of Ultrasone HFI-780s, which sounded great for the price I paid ($140), but were just uncomfortable after a while due to the padding.

Not a fan of Beats/Monster/Bose/Skullcandy as I think they all focus primarily on profit margin and marketing as opposed to trying to sell a competitively priced headphone that is a great product for the price, although the Skullcandy Aviators are something I want to try out to see how they perform for their price.

So my question to everyone is what do you use and what do you think of them?

I have those, I don’t really have an issue with the comfort though. They’re really durable since I’ve dropped them about 10 times on my hard wood floor and there’s not a scratch on them. I use an ibasso d4 for my amp/dac.

^It was mostly that the weight was concentrated, which I thought was an odd choice anyways in headband design.

The Sennheiser HD650 is heavenly. Even when driven by a Fiio E17/E09k. Since upgrading to it from an Audio-Technica ATH-M50s, I’ve found that its greatest advantages are soundstage (mainly improves games and movies by enhancing imaging), making fiddles sound like voices of angels, and instrument separation.

Audio Technica ATH-M50. I sometimes wish the bass was a little heavier, but the sound is good enough for me.

Sennheisers or bust

I have hd25-1 ii which sound great.
I also have Monoprice 8320 when I need something more portable, for the price there very high quality. Nice drivers and they have covered cables to prevent tangles
