Health Care Administration Major and "W" on Transcript

Hello everyone,

I'm going into my 3rd year of college this Fall 2013 and I was taking a required lower division course for my major which is Health Care Admin. The course was Financial Accounting (ACCT 301/ACCY1), but I dropped the class due to not being able to catch up with the workload and personal issues to take care off. As of right now the course is recorded as a "W" on my permanent record and I'm worried that since this was a required lower division class will it affect my chances of getting into a graduate school or even a job? This is my very first W ever and I'm very disappointed in myself for withdrawing.

My other question is, many people are telling me that getting an undergraduate degree in Health Science: Health Care Administration is a very bad career to pursue and that I should switch to Business Administration because it has more variety. The school I attend has a very strong and popular business program (impacted). But, I'm not very interested in the field. As for health care admin. the courses offered are not much compared to the business program, but some of the science courses required do interest me such as the health courses. Is there anyone here that has a degree in health care admin. and is successful? What kind of jobs are available out there for this degree? Or is this degree too limited to just one aspect that it'll be hard to find a job? Much help is appreciated.

I can’t answer your second question, but in response to your first: it’s one W. So long as you don’t make a habit of collecting them, it won’t matter at all to admissions committees or potential employers. If you were at another school with more lenient withdrawal policies, it might not have even showed up – at my school, withdrawals didn’t show up on your transcript unless you dropped 2 months into a 4-month course. So don’t stress. :)

As mentioned, it’s only one W. And it’s also better than an F.

Hopefully, by working harder and getting a high GPA my “W” will be overlooked.
