So I'm planning on going to medical school. If I go to USC, I was intent on being a Bio major and an EALC minor, but do any of you think it would be okay if I was a EALC major and a Health Care Studies minor, so long as I took the extra units? I know you can have any major you want so long as you take the required courses and do well enough on the MCAT, but do you think having such an unrelated major would be okay? Or should I go the safe way with a Bio major?

As long as you take all the pre med prerequisite classes (and theses requirements will be changing during your time), it really doesn’t matter what you major/minor in. What matters is how well you do in your science classes and how well you do over all (science/math GPA and college GPA). If you have competitive GPA’s and a good MCAT, having an unrelated major will not put you at a disadvantage. Study what you are interested in- you will probably do better in it than forcing yourself to major in something else.

Well, that makes me feel better most definitely. Kind of unrelated, but @camomof3, do you think it would be easier to get in as an EALC major?
