I was thinking of doing a pre-med degree in healthcare management, as I've heard from some people that this later opens up a range of administrative positions in the medical field [directors of departments, deans @ teaching hospitals, etc.] following a career as a doctor. How true is this, and how competitive is the field?

By pre-med degree, do you mean fulfilling the courses required to take the MCATs (biology, organic chem, physics, etc., etc.) and majoring in healthcare administration/ management? Or are you referring to taking courses that would eventually lead to a career in healthcare administration?
