Recipe directed me to grease the IP pot (instead of the rack/bowl method used for some other recipes). Ratio was 1c oats, 3c liquid (I used 2c milk since we have surplus in fridge + 1c water). Pressure cooking time 4min/normal. Of course since this is IP it means that the total time, with heat time and natural pressure release, was almost a half hour. No biggie when you have time for it.
Next time we will likely double te recipe, since that is what we do when we do stovetop oatmeal…. leftovers in fridge. For double, they suggest 2c oats and 5c liquid.
I’m a little confused on the Healthy Habits threads and if there was a snack one but this thread will do.
My recent filling snack. Split a mejool date. Remove pit if there is one. Fill with peanut or almond butter. Refrigerator till firm. Melt the chocolate of your choice. Milk, semi sweet, dark. Take firm date and dip half of it in chocolate and place on parchment. Final touch, a little flaky salt. Freeze until firm and then refrigerate or keep in freezer until you want one!
We used to find good deal on mejool dates at Sam’s. We had a recipe from cooking class stuffing them with a mixture of goat cheese and jarred red pepper.
I recommend unsweetened NutPods—coffee cake flavor is a good one. I just confirmed; no sugar, just “natural flavors”. (I usually drink black coffee, but do like these on occasion.)
I have one travel cup (not an obscene size) of coffee a day. I like my coffee milky (have a great frother) and just a tad sweet. I use pure maple syrup.
I like my coffee fine with just milk. When my SIL is around I buy Lactaid and it’s actually a little sweeter than milk. It’s always a pleasant surprise. I have never thought there was any point in eating fake sugar. Better to just eat more fruit and save the sweets for special occasions.
One summer during college I worked at Dunkin’ donuts. I started drinking coffee (free of course), with cream and sugar. Once I started working, that’s how I had it out of the vending machine… where it was a bit of a department social event flipping coins til one buyer left to bu all (coffee was 20cents/cup). After a few years I made a New Year’s resolution to drink my coffee without sugar. So for almost 40 years I’ve mostly only had coffee with cream or black.
I remember that vending machine coffee - especially when it became “fancy” and you could get flavored or fake “cappuccino” or something. It was so good but I’m sure in a very bad way! Probably all kinds of sugary fats in whatever they used to make it so tasty!
Oooh yea. So that jogged my memory that there were some years in 1990s where most afternoons at work I had a french vanilla coffee (instead of the Reese’s candy I really wanted - did that a lot in younger years). Later I switched to bringing a banana for afternoon snack. A co-worker asked if I was concerned by “all the fat” in bananas. I replied Not Really, since fresh fruit seemed better than other temptations at the vending machine.
Yea, that was a crazy comment. Once I started looking at snack food labels from the vending machine, it seemed like most other satisfying snacks (like 2 Reese cups) were at least 12g fat.
Potatoes make a regular appearance on our dinner table. “Taco potatoes” are my favorite. Sweet potatoes are great and nutritionally I wonder how different they are from regular potatoes. Recently I really cut back on carbs and my running suffered. I think potatoes are a good carb option as long as they’re not fried.
I think as I’ve gotten older I have more of an appreciation for good nutritional habits. I am trying to move away from a weight loss mentality to a strength building perspective. It’s not easy.
