@UMspringT – The OP did not note if the applicant was academically qualified for UM nor did she say if the school appeared affordable. I don’t think anyone here is discouraging UMiami as a college destination – but long time CC posters have seen students absolutely devastated when they either don’t get into or find that they cannot afford their “dream school” and they don’t have a plan B that they can be happy with. So while it is great to have a top choice college, most people on CC would say it would be a mistake for an applicant to pin all of his/her hopes and dreams on one school – especially one like UM which is competitive in terms of admissions.

Both of my kids had a school that was their top choice, but hey also had a group of other schools that they felt they would be very happy to attend. So to me the OP saying her D “doesn’t even want to look at any other schools” is a red flag.
