According to housing.ucla.edu these new facilities are residence halls? Is this true? I would like to live in these facilities. Hrm...I wonder how they look...haha

"Hedrick Summit Residence Hall
Construction on this new nine-story residence hall began in May 2003. The site is just north of Hedrick Hall. When completed, this building will add 765 bedspaces for UCLA undergraduate students."

"Rieber Terrace and Rieber Vista Residence Halls
Construction of two 9-story residence halls began in Fall 2003. These sites are adjacent to and in front of Rieber Hall. When completed, these two sites will add 1,221 new bedspaces for undergraduate students and a new dining boutique restaurant for housing residents."

I'm sure they will be taken by lots of upperclassmen though because they get priority and they get to choose a specific building rather than just "hall" or "suite" etc. I would say the new halls and Sproul will be more upperclassmen and then freshman would be likely to get Rieber, Hedrick, and Dykstra.

whats interesting is that Hedrick Summit is going to be used by high school and grade school kids doing the Summer Discovery program this summer (interesting because they're using singles for those programs - didn't think that would happen). Probably because Sproul is booked by the camps and cheerleaders and such, Rieber is going to be summer school students, Hedrick is likely to be the orientation building, and Dykstra is usually foreign students.
Hedrick Summit is done right now for all intents and purposes, you can see people have moved stuff into the rooms from De Neve Drive (likely office staff and such) - they really kicked it up on the construction of that thing.... same with Rieber Vista; looks like they'll be done with plenty of time for move-in. Amazing stuff, by UCLA construction standards.

eh minor, unimportant semantic difference haha. residence hall... residence plaza - basically synonymous. no one says that they live in the "plazas", etc.

Neat, however......too pricey, I think. Even though I've got scholarships and grants doesn't mean that I want to spend it all on a "meal plan" and a noisy res. hall. ;-)

It appears that many of them average about 900-1300 a month? Seems steep and I am coming from Santa Barbara where......yes, it's very expensive to live. lol

it is steep - but you get all utilities and food. All your friends going to college in anything but a big city will be paying less than half of what you are, but whatever. Just wait til you want to move off campus and realize that a one-two bedroom apt. in westwood can be upwards of $2100 a month haha
