I originally got Hedrick Summit as my housing assignment and requested it to be changed to either Dykstra or another hall. Rieber Vista was my third choice because I figured it would at least be closer to campus!

They changed my assignment to Rieber Vista, but I didn't know that Vista is more of a 2nd or 3rd year dorm. Is that true? And is it possible to make another request for change of assignment?

Dude, stay in RV. It's freaking awesome and one of the newest dorms. Like, seriously... it won't severely hurt your chances of making friends - it isn't HITCH!

RT is better than De neve in terms of the facilities, much more spacious and nicer. Just distance is a problem for the lazy fellows. To be honest, I think Hedrick Summit would've been a great first year dorm for you. The walk isn't that far... just tough it out because it'll be worth it.

rieber is for sure not a first year dorm. it’s a plaza so you share a bathroom with one other room. It’s for second and third years who like peace and quiet. It’s not very close to the campus and you WILL get written up for being loud in rieber vista. I suggest a hall for first years. it’s definitely an experience that is worthwhile-- esp at UCLA. Also, you for sure will not get a double in Rieber vista. When I was signing up for housing, it was pretty hard even for a second year to score a double. Once you live in a plaza for a year, you won’t want to downgrade into a hall your second year so my advice is that you should try to submit another CAR and try to get into a hall. Dykstra is the most social hall. I stayed there my freshman year and while it’s not the nicest place, it’s closest to campus which will help you out a lot if you’re a first year. It’s the closest dorm to frat row and many many many social gatherings happen in DeNeve/Dykstra courtyard. Every year, dykstra is pretty much all first years and some second years. The RAs know this so they make floor meetings extremely social and they plan a lot of events for first years. If you live in a plaza, half your floor will be second/third years who really need to study and are not down to have you blasting music. We tried having kickbacks in Rieber and DeNeve plaza last year and got written up twice.
