Quick question about GPA-- I want to hopefully finish high school with a good GPA, but I’m for sure going to end up with a B in BC Calc this year. My school calculates gpa without the + and - (in every class A+/A/A-=4.0, B+/B/B- =3.0), and also only calculates unweighted. I know a lot of people who have only gotten one B in all of high school that have a 3.97 gpa-- knowing this, does anyone know what cumulative hs gpa I would have with 2 B’s? 3 B’s?
Would it just be 2 B’s=3.94, 3B’s=3.91, 4B’s=3.88, etc. ?
I’m thinking of taking AP Psych, AP Bio, AP Stats, AP US History, and AP Lit next year, so I just want to prepare myself for how much my gpa might drop lol. Also if anyone has taken these classes and has any advice/opinions about how hard they classes are, please please comment down below!!

Yeah, you’re doing the math right. First of all, you might want to drop one or two of those APs. Take courses in subjects that you are genuinely interested in. I wouldn’t ever take AP Physics because Physics doesn’t interest me at ALL. Now, if I were going into a STEM field, I’d most likely take it. However, I’m going into law. Take the APs that best fit your major, and your interests.
Now, GPA is not the only thing colleges look at (I’m sure you knew that). They like seeing a 3.5, 3.6 GPA with many rigorous courses over a 4.0 without much academic challenge (generally). BUT, can you handle FIVE APs in a year? Bio, Lit, and APUSH are 3 of the hardest AP classes. Talk to your counselor and see if other students have taken a course load similar to yours. See how they did. If they still did well, talk to them for study habits, test-taking tips, time management skills, ANYTHING to keep your grades as high as you can get them.
Hope that helped
Uh, A B in Calc BC as a sophomore is fine – that’s a level of rigor that’s going to offset the small GPA dip. Most kids don’t take that until senior year, if at all. Don’t worry so much.
Others are saying your calculations are correct. I’m a little unsure of MY Gpa now. I ended my high school career with a 3.85 ish unweighted. I never get under an A-. My freshman year I got all A-, sophomore I got 1 A- and 4 A’s, junior year I got 6 A’s, and senior fall and winter I have 4 A’s and 1 A- (took 6 Ap’s total including senior year, although idk my weighted)… so im not sure if my GPA is just weird
but yes you are taking rigorous courses and schools will definitely understand your lower grades in the harder classes. your course load is pretty impressive
@MNballer19 yeah I was thinking that all those APs in one year might be a bit too much. Parents are really pressuring me to take a lot of APs next year though because all of my friends are I’m definitely going to talk to my counselor and a lot of upperclassmen before I settle on a final schedule though-- thanks for the advice!
@yankeeinGA thanks for the reassurance
@cookieloverboy it might just be how your school calculates gpa (not sure, but I think a lot of schools do a system where A=4.0 but A-=3.7)-- I go to a prep school so I think they try to make it a bit easier for us. but dang all A’s and A-'s is really good and I saw your thread, congrats on all those acceptances!
@kxailia aw thank you so much! means a lot Good luck! Your GPA is looking good to me and I’m sure you will end up somewhere you love and deserve! best of luck
