Helllppp: Bowdoin Vs. Dartmouth Vs. Whitman

Hi - I’ve been lucky enough to be accepted into bowdoin, dartmouth, and whitman colleges. Whitman is in Walla Walla Washington and is supposed to be a great school. I live in Idaho so Bowdoin and Dartmouth are far away but are also apparently great. I’m interested in premed too so any advice would be appreciated.

I'm going to Bowdoin. But I didn't get into Dartmouth. Dartmouth is Ivy League but the only people I know there are idiots. I like Bowdoin a lot. Try to visit them. Don't go to Whitman, though.

Bowdoin's pre-med program is very good. In case your wondering. 91% of the applicants from Bowdoin get into at least 1 medical school (which is good considering the national rate is only 50%). Also from talking with some of the faculty they have told me that some Bowdoin alums are top in their med school class (even over Ivy league grads).

Our daughter will be attending Bowdoin next year pre-med. The stats from another poster tell a lot. Their science program is outstanding.

That said, you can't go wrong with Dartmouth. They have their own medical school - that will tell you a lot about their undergrad program. Dartmouth was our daughter's second choice and Bowdoin her first.

It is a nice problem to have, aye? Many congrats and all the best.

Come to Whitman...if they gave you money!
If not, Dartmouth is ivy league I hear...so I'd go with that.
I live in the Seattle area and I like that Whitman is close by becaaause:
a) I'll know people over the summer. My bro is a senior on the east coast at Wesleyan and he's a real social guy, but he barely knows any of his old high school friends who still live here, and none of his college friends live around here either. He actually hangs out w/ Whitman people he knows through a friend.
b) Alumni network in the Northwest is really strong..and I plan on sticking around the NW for a couple years and the Whitman name/contacts should be as helpful as any school

That all said, if it's the same price, I'd probably go with Dartmouth.

I really don't know anything about Whitman, but I really really wanted to go to Dartmouth last year, but I was waitlisted. I lovelovelove Bowdoin, but you should really try to visit both schools before you make a decision. The only thing that turns me off about Dartmouth now, in hindsight, is that the frat/sorority scene is pretty big--apparently it dominates the social scene there. Bowdoin doesnt have that at all, and I'm glad. Academically, I don't honestly know if you'd be able to tell the difference. I was the valedictorian of a small prep school and I feel very challenged here and if I didn't, I know what harder classes I could be taking. At this point, it's all about fit. Just go to the school that feels right. And yeah, forrealllll, I wish I had your problem! Good luck!

I would go with Dartmouth if it is a fit for you.

I say Dartmouth as well.

No doubt----Choose Dartmouth.

As long as you're prepared for the distance, I would say Dartmouth.
