Hello, Hello, Hello. Sorry, I don't speak monkey.

Can anyone answer some of my questions?

hey, the UC's basically take up to 8 semesters of AP/Honors classes and weight accordingly. They look at W/UW GPA as well. If you are out of state, I think you need a 3.4 to be eligible.

=/

I've so far only been in APUSH and my Physics class is weighted, besides that all my classes are all college prep classes, chem, bio, spanish, etc.. How would I figure my GPA out then? MY school really doesn't offer that many honors/APs

so APUSH+ Physics add one point

I suggest applying to all the UC's, with UCSD, UCSB being reaches and UCI UCM UCD and UCR being matches. UCB and UCLA, I dunno, because people with 4.0 UW and 2200 SAT's are being rejected this year- AND they are instate.

Do you think ED for UCLA will help my chances our should I apply in OCtober, I am applying for all my schools around October, will that boost my chances?

UCLA is a public school....there is no ED.

the deadline for UC's are November 30th. No rolling admissions or anything, so November 30th is it.

personally, [I live in CA, 45 mins from Berekley and 5 hours from UCLA]
it will be extremely hard for you. you are out of state, and their minimum required GPA is 3.4....so consider all the other UC's, not UCLA or UCB.

so even if I applied late it wouldn't matter? And would you say I have at least a 50% chance?

you don't seem to get it. "it will be extremely hard for you" does not mean 50%. IMHO you have FAR less than 50% chance at UCLA, you may not even meet their minimum required GPA so your chances might be 0%.

yeah I second what chocolateluvr is saying, though you shouldn't SMACK it in his face, =/

yeah NO ONE has 50% chance at their reach or match colleges, lol. you have under 5% chance, realisticly. Sorry about that. Why do you want to go to UCLA? your list is full of Ivy level colleges, its clear you're doing it just for the name. its human nature, but you need to find colleges which are a BEST fit for you. I found mine, NYU....now I just have to prove it to them =/

Don't judge a book by it's cover. Yes they are top schools and I don't really even know why I put Colombia and BU;yet, I am still going to try. I'm that kind of person who always thinks: what if? Yeah my chances are low but I would rather try and fail, than not try at all. I like those universities because of their locations, they have good academic programs, etc. Human nature? Yeah, ok. Everyone is different don't judge, i got my opinions but just because they are negative doesn't mean I'm not going to try. Yeah, all these schools were pretty much reaches, I know. I already know my safeties, so I'm good there. Just like you are going to prove yourself, I am going to prove myself; whether I fail or succeed. I will not let my past define my future.

Here is my "new" list, they still are major reaches/reaches though:

Northwestern University
University of Chicago
University of California–Berkeley
Carnegie Mellon University
University of California–Los Angeles
University of Michigan–Ann Arbor
University of Southern California
University of California–San Diego
New York University
University of Illinois–Urbana-Champaign

They're not saying you have no chance and not to try. They're saying, "You might be too overconfident and should consider reviewing your safeties."

What safeties? You have none. You need a safety. And a few matches, because if you get rejected everywhere (which is a bit unlikely, but certainly possible) then you will end up HAVING to go to your safety, which won't make you too happy I think.

My point was not to not try. If you're willing to do lots of applications, you should definately try. No reason not to. But, you think your chances at U Illinois are much higher than they are. You say you have the 2 Illinois safeties, yet you talk as if you're above their level. If your list is what you showed above plus the 2 safeties, there's around a 1/4 chance or so that you will end up at one of those safeties. IMHO you should apply to places in between Illinois and safeties.

I am just giving you advice, which I thought was why you made this thread. If you don't want to listen, that's fine, but don't insult the advice I give you.

BTW, I already proved myself in the college process. I'm no competition. I've been through the process, and with much better stats than you, applied to some of the same schools. I know the schools I applied to very well, I read this board often, visited, researched, etc.

ED at algonquin college in canada. there you can learn how to be a telemarketer or a plumber or since you speak monkey ; zookepper.

"I will not let my past define its future"

In this context, it is an incorrect statement.

In life context, the one that actually matters, you couldn't have said it better. You can go to a "****ty" college, get a 4.0, and then scrouge up and go for Graduate/Masters at Harvard. That, my friend, is way more impressive than being at a top university and staying there from day one. Shows you have determination and the WILL to prove yourself, without getting insignificant high school grades come in your way. CSU San Francisco or Pennslyvania state or CUNY's in New York are decent no name schools, if you like the city that much those should be your backups/matches.

I wish that was true IN THIS context. Believe me, I have the same stats as you and I live in California. I am telling you what I know and what everyone who has replied on this board feels. Please don't get defensive, because this is a freaking college forum, I feel like a loser just BEING on here, lol. Look- UCLA and UCB have too many perfect instate canidates who they reject...just something to think about.

if you have safeties, then you have safeties. No problems there.

Wherever you go, you will learn to love it. You just will. All these schools have great programs, but others do too. EVERY freaking college has its pros and cons, and BASICALLY, you will get a halfway decent degree ANYWHERE you go- be it Northwestern or your local state college.

If I am instate for the UC's and I have little or no chance at LA etc. means you have to be twice as good for them to accept you.

UCSD would be a reachable reach if at all.

As far as NYU etc. goes, you have a decent shot depending on your major....

good luck.

I just wanted some opinions and I have 7 safeties, so ;ike I said I don't need help on picking safeties

I'm not overconfident about getting into UofI, I just feel I have a good chance

zookeeper is spelled with 2 e's not 2 p's and well my post seems to say that I don't speak monkey so how do I speak monkey? You make utter sense.

Thanks for everysone's help, your comments were insightful, I could still use some more evaluation, no matter how bad it maybe

and the brown, you quoted my comment incorrectly:therfore, your analysis was futile, but thanks anyway, I get what your all saying.

So slacking off and finding success is better than always being successful?

You might think you want to apply to all those schools now, but applying to those + 7 safeties is going to be a nightmare. Prune your list a bit, and visit schools/do more research to find out which ones you REALLY like--every school you apply to should be one you'd be perfectly happy at.

Arti: of course not.

I am just trying to tell indian that there is more to life than a name school. If you haven't noticed, it's getting harder every year. Harvard and Yale have only so many spots...

you won't understand if you've been brilliant from the word "go".
