are you an int'l? if you are applying for fin aid at stanford might damage your chances.
princeton harvard and yale are some of the rare schools that are need blind for int'l. They can give you full aid

So only the ivies are need blind? That means I must get in the best colleges of the world or else it's nothing?
Hmm.. Too bad stanford is not need blind, because I really hoped to get admitted there.

It's maybe too much ask, but could you make ranking of that list, from the "best" school till the "worst" School.

Also I wonder if youre international student and your native language is not english. Will it hurt your chances hard if you get a very good score on math but not so well score on verbal and writing?

alyssa that list doesn't seem right... vassar, penn, columbia, colgate, gtown, dartmouth, tufts - just some of the schools that i'm sure aren't need blind

i guess you meant schools that provide finaid :-/

Stanford is not need-blind for internationals but Harvard is. If you get in Harvard, you would get a full ride. What country are you from? However, if you just want to get a full ride, there are MANY less prestigious schools where you can get a great education and still get a full ride

need blind means that when they decide whether they will admit you, they will not look at how much money you need. When it's not need blind, then they will most likely take the applicants who don't need as much fiancial assistance.

MANY state schools give full rides. Actually almost all do except for the very top ones like Berkeley and UVA, in which you'll have to be exceptional to get it. I think you can get one if you have a great application to a less prestigious public school.

Sorry, but I don't think Berkeley offers financial aid or even merit-based scholarship to intl students. It also has a ridiculously high out-of-state tuition. Some public state schools, like UT Austin, only accept a limited number of out-of-state students and a even smaller number of intl students. And I'm pretty sure UT Austin doesn't offer finaid or scholarship to intl students. If you live in a U.S. state and qualify for state residency, then it'd be much easier to get in/money.

really? I didn't know that. I guess it's rare that schools in the US are needblind for internationals then. It's consistent with the fact that it is always a plus to be a US citizen. Out of the top schools, I am very sure that MIT, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale are needblind for internationals. They are the schools that give great financial aid but it's just very very difficult to get in for internationals.

trinya- there are some int'ls who get in to stanford with fin aid. But its tougher. Applying to stanford for fin aid WILL damage your chances. If there's an other applicant who is as strong as you and is not applying for fin aid, he will get in and you won't. And the more money you need, the less likely you'll be to get in. For Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Williams and a few others, how much you need won't make a difference
