Agree with SharonOhio that you will get a lot more responses dealing with your question if you post separately. In-state flagship U vs. out-of-state private is really a different issue from private vs. other private.
Have you & your child set out a list of pro & con for each of the two schools? Is $ a factor in your family? Are there other kids? What kind of program does each school offer for what your student is currently interested in? Will there be substantial debt/loan for either/each school?
There is a thread by EvilRobot who turned down many acceptances to attend a school with significant merit aid. He has done very well and is happy to graduate debt-free. There are others who assume varying amounts of debt to attend the school they/their student prefers. Graduating with crushing debt is a huge burden and limits options–don’t know whether this is a factor for your situation. All of this could be more fully explored in your own thread.</p>
