Help a bio grad find his way into finance/investment banking

Hello there. I recently graduated from UCLA with a degree in neuroscience and a 3.6 GPA. My plan was to go to medical school, but I already applied this year and did not get in.

I could have reapplied this summer, but I decided just to screw it and completely change my life's path.

I would really like to get into consulting or investment banking. I'm young and full of energy, and I realize that this is the time that I should be working my hardest to advance my career.

I was thinking about working in a lab for a year or two while I apply to every banking job or internship out there.

What would you guys do in my situation? I have no financial experience, just a good scientific mind and a decent gpa from a good school. My ultimate goal is to find a job that incorporates both finance and science.

Are there any certifications I should get? Is there some sort of starting job I should get that will be a good experience for me? Should I get an MBA?

Thanks.

How is your search going? I have a bio degree and am currently working on my MBA. There are some firms that recruit for those with life sciences background. I would suggest a google search for those and then some cold calls/emails etc.

I think you could leverage your bio background and try to get into biotech, and from there maybe venture capital or consulting. I know the big consulting firms such as Bain/McKinsey/BCG hire Ph. D’s for the specific knowledge.

D.E. Shaw Research

would getting a master’s in quantitative finance be easy? will this help me find a nice banking or finance job? or should i get an mba?
