Help a freshman!!!!!!!!! Math 31B...

Hi. I'm taking Matthias Aschenbrenner's 31B class and I was wondering if anyone is taking a different professor who they think is a good lecturer.

Matthias has only talked about what an inverse and exponential function is and we have homework about limits of inverses, etc. I already know this stuff but am concerned about when we get to material I haven't covered.

Help!

ummm when is your homework due? since most cases the homework for math are due friday the professors normally cover everyone on it by wednesday, if you are one of those people who want to finish it the day they are assigned you'll have to learn on your own... if he never catch up to the homework pace on his lectures then you are kinda screwed :(

every lecturer/professor will cover stuff you haven't covered before. besides, math is such an easy subject to learn on your own. RELAX!

Thank you! You were right.

oh man. i have dai for 3a... first of all, he has the worst accent. second, whenever he starts a sentence, he always mumbles the last 5 words... i haven't learned a damn thing in that class. we have had no hw, nada.i never took calc in highschool so i just hope i dont get taken by surprise and get screwed.

how about opening the book and reading it? and another idea, do about 20 problems from each section. seriously people, that math is not that hard.

Of course it isn't hard. I was just worried I had a bad professor but he is really awesome and pretty funny. gmargos, sorry about your prof. See if you can switch sections?

i have weinstein for math3a and he is pretty good so far. very straightforward and clear. but my TA sucks !!! he pauses for 10 seconds scratching his head while the class is just quiet. and when he does actually open his mouth to speak, it starts off like, "so, yeah... yeah... points at whiteboard and, yeah..." he started the class 20 minutes early because 2 people were there at the earlier time, and ended it 20 minutes early as well. sooooooo annoying... can we switch TAs for math?

Switching TAs is something you should ask the Professor. You will probably be able to go to another TA if all the discussions are just Q&A.

miech is pretty easy for 31b, but i wouldnt say he's a good lecturer. schubert is a good lecturer, but has mc exams. ugh, mc exams for math??

My experience with math professors has been pretty bad so far. Fall quarter, I had a guy that was really really easy... didn't learn much, did average (the curve was ridiculously high), and regretted taking the course.
Winter quarter, had a professor that couldn't speak (understandable) English. Did average again... felt extremely unmotivated.
Spring quarter... really really smart professor, horrible at teaching and/or conveying anything useful to students. Didn't teach from the book, and I swear he invented some stuff (couldn't even find it on google!!)... did just plain bad!
Really hoping this quarter will go well.
