ok. this is the first time im taking the SAT. im hoping for a 2000+. but unlike most of u guys who are still in summer break, i was in school so i didnt have enough studying to do for the SAT thanks to all the APs and Honors homework i had. so what should i do to study for:
1. CR. basically, its hard for me that i was surprise that i did better in the math section in a practice SAT when i thought i did good in the CR section. should i study vocabulary, memorize roots, read a lot, or practice? what books should i get? CR is my weakest point.
2. math. face it. i hate math. and i hate it when a math problem that seems so hard for me becomes an easy problem when they do it for u. what books will help me for that? i already have the BB. second weakest point.
3. writing. its ok. slightly higher then my math score. any suggestions for that too. strongest (slightly) point.
4. how should i study when im in school? i know the SAT is on the 4th of October and im am in break during from september ~16 - ~10 of october so that should help a little.

What’s your current score? What math problems do you not know how to do? What critical reading questions do you mess up on? Why? I mean, your question is like telling a doctor that your stomach hurts and you’re asking for a treatment. It’s hard to answer your question if you don’t know exactly why your stomach is hurting.

sorry if the question is all weird. it was late yesterday and i was doing all this APUSH homework.

usually, when i talk about the CR section, its the vocab part (i thought most of u guys would think of that when it comes down to the CR section) and on the math section, i have problems that require a lot of thinking.

Dude.

What
Is
Your
Current
Score?

I dont think “i have problems that require a lot of thinking” makes any sense whatsoever. if you mean to say “i have problems with questions that require a lot of thinking”, then you need to seek therapy. We can’t help you with that.

Read the first complete sentence in the original post…

If this is going to be his first time taking the SAT, then he has taken the PSAT.

Or a practice test that isn’t the PSAT.

Nonetheless still a SAT/PSAT test. Regardless of the accuracy of the practice tests he’s taken, giving us an idea of his scoring range will help us help him. If he has taken zero practice tests and is planning on diving headfirst into his first official SAT-which is about a month away- there really isn’t much he can do except grind SAT questions on the BB.

Arnoc, since you seem to know the guy well, why don’t you do the honor of reposting the “tips” that have been mentioned approximately six thousands times in this ridiculously convoluted forum.

aight aight then i didnt want to show my practice SAT score cuz i was embarrass. this score is from a Kaplan SAT practice test. its like taking the actual SAT with supervision and all that stuff. i took it i think it was march or april and did no studying and had little knowledge of the SAT at that time. I got a 1490 on it. 510 in math, 460 on the CR section, and 520 in the writing section while getting an 8 on the essay. let me remind u its the first time i took a SAT practice test and without any studying whatsoever. i just did it cuz my english teacher said it will help me. (and besides, i kept falling asleep in the middle of it). the PSAT was from last year and i got 137 without any studying and i didnt pay attention to it. there happy.

the only practice i have been doing is math problems and CR vocab problems from different websites.

^No need to invent pretexts as to why you received those scores. Also, Kaplan is pretty terrible for practice tests, so I highly recommend you take a blue book practice test to diagnose yourself more accurately.

I second that about Kaplan. Remember they came out with their SAT prep book w/o even looking at the test.

Rocket review is the perfect book for you. It even has a math section that allows you to pinpoint your exact weaknesses-not to mention that the advice on CR and writing is also superb. Check out Rocket Review and then purchase books such as grubers, barrons, for additional study. Then finalize with the BB.

Peace out.

to be straightforward,

don’t make excuses to yourself about how you should have done better.
the only way to do well on the SAT is to study, and i mean study HARD. Don’t let your low scores put you down, they should make you even more determined to do well. Study vocabulary and practice some outside reading in addition to taking practice SAT tests on weekends and sections during the week when you have free time. I hope you’re not a senior yet haha.

haha im not im starting my junior year but anyways thanks for the advice. i put that little comment on the SAT cuz since this is CC with an average of 2000+ i was kinda ashamed haha

Its all good, i only got a 1940 on my first practice sat.

^Same, I only received a score of 2399 on my first SAT practice test.

YOU’RE LIEING! SAT SCORES ONLY EXISTS IN MULTIPLES OF TEN!
HAH!

Im sick.

^ I’m sure he means 2390…that’s what I got too on my first practice test, so don’t worry. I raised it to a 2400 on the real one.

But seriously, I would just take a few practice tests and get used to the questions. Then, buy a general book like grubers to help you with the content that you are weak at.

Socalsoccerboy,

a HUGE piece of advice for your junior year is to STUDY HARD for the SAT’s that you’ll take during your junior year, that way after you score well, during your next summer you can just research colleges.

I need to take the Oct SAT to raise my score some more which is why i’m stressing out. it’s hard to find a balance between SAT’s and college apps/research, which is why it is very advantageous to do well on your SAT’s early on! GL!

sat scores can exist in multiples of 5 as well.
