Ive been studying like crazy for the past 2 months for the march SAT. I still see only a few vague improvements, for the mainpart i almost always get around 18/25 or 17/25 per section. I dont get why!

On math, theres always a certain few questions that stump me,

On CR theres always just these questions that i get wrong

On Writing i get a few wrong here and there, and its hard to tell even why

I dont get how so many people are getting like 1900+

Im stuck at around 1720.. what should i do??

Make sure you understand why you get problems wrong (check your available resources if you can’t figure it out). What prep tools are you using btw?

Im not really sure exactly HOW to study for this test… thats another problem. Im sure that the vocab i dont really have a problem with, most of the sentence completion is easy for me, but otherwise, im not sure

Okay, you are using so-so guidebooks, to start. The SAT online course is great for additional practice but kind of sucky for strategies, etc.

For Math, try Gruber’s.
For Writing, try Rocket Review (I like to use a GMAT book for Writing, but I’m weird).
For CR, try Rocket Review + Maximum SAT.

Also check out the recent post by AcademicHacker on the essay portion of the Writing test: an excellent source.

As for how to practice, read the Xiggi thread. The only thing I would add to Xiggi’s advice is that, on the Writing and Math, it’s really hard to overuse flash cards. If you miss a problem, either on a practice set in your strategy guide or on a BB set, make it into a flash card and review your flash cards all the d*** time.

i placed an order for rocket review and grubers on amazon :]. Thanks for the advice, im curious, how do i help my time? I did a CR section yesterday in 30 minutes and i got only 2 wrong, but with 25 i get around 6 wrong :(

Rocket Review is a very solid review book for CR and Writing and Grubers has a very good math review section to get you over 1900+. Also, try getting the vocab book Direct Hits because if you know the vocab words on the CR section, they are basically free points. Keep up the work. Although it’s been two months, just keep up the studying and you will see noticeable improvements. First time I took the SAT, I got a 570 on the CR section but after studying vocab and doing tons of practice tests over several months, I was able to raise it to a 710. I’m so glad I finished with a good score and trust me, after you finish all the studying and receive a great score, you’ll know it was all worth it too.

I dont know if this helps but I knew after taking the tests that my weakness was algebra and it was going to screw me over on the SATs. I took my psats and ended up with a 550 in the math so I contacted Kaplan over the summer and did their one on one SAT tutoring but I told them I only wanted algebra, nothing else. I drilled for that, did one session a week for six weeks. I got a 640 in the math SAT which I was satisfied with. I am not a math ace and I knew I would do well in verbal. So I think the most important thing is figure your weakness.

Hey PKWsurf. Looking at your post, I am currently in your “past” situation. I have only scored a 59 on the PSAT Critical Reading section. I performed really badly on the Reading Comprehension portion. How did you prep for that?
