Help about living learning communities

What is the experience like? Are you with the same people everyday every class? Opinions?

You’re sorta mixing up FIGs and LLCs. FIGs (Freshman Interest Groups) basically set up your first semester’s schedule, by giving you typically 12-15 credit hours of classes in a group, and everyone in that FIG has the same schedule.

LLCs are sorta different. You take a class that’s taught within the dorm (times, days, etc vary). You’re only with the people in that LLC for that class, not your full course load.

That said, I wasn’t ever in an LLC, although everyone I know that was seemed to enjoy themselves.

How can you join an FIG

You don’t really “join” a FIG. During Orientation, when you talk about what classes you are going to register for, they should discuss FIGs and how it might be a good choice, and all that. You should be given a booklet about the various classes (that meet different FSU requirements) for you to browse through, and I think there’s a section about FIGs.

[Here’s FSU’s page on FIGs](http://undergrad.fsu.edu/FIG/about.html). You can click on the link on that page titled “FIG Clusters” and look up what the different FIGs you can register for are and what classes are part of each group.
Keep in mind that some FIG groups will fill out your entire first semester schedule, and some won’t. Also keep in mind that one of the big differences between FIGs and LLCs is that LLCs require you to live in a specific dorm and take classes in the dorm building, while FIGs don’t.
Also keep in mind that LLCs have to be applied for and that you have to apply for them before March- whereas you won’t go through Orientation till June most likely, so you’ll be able to apply for an LLC and get a response about your acceptance or not long before you schedule your Fall semester classes. (Assuming you start in the Fall).
