i got accepted into the UT Plan II Honors program.
I didn’t apply for any scholarships, but is it possible for me to receive any merit scholarships or some other type of scholarships, and if so which ones and how? will i automatically be considered for a merit scholarship because i was accepted? i dont really understand how scholarships work.
Contact admissions about it. If you applied on applytexas, there should have been a scholarship application alongside the regular one. I doubt you can still fill it out, but it will not hurt to ask. I don’t think you’re automatically considered for most, if not all, scholarships just because you’ve been admitted.
Remember that UT is also not the only place to find scholarships: a quick google search will show you a plethora of scholarship opportunities. If you have a disability of any kind, a family member in the military, if your GPA is above a 3.0, you can easily get money. In whatever area you live in, there are also likely local scholarships to apply for too. Merit scholarships are available basically everywhere, as well.
Since you got into Plan II, I assume you’re a pretty smart cookie, but I’ll include the following info just in case.
You don’t have to pay back scholarships or grants-so look into applying for these and applying for a LOT of them. The more you apply for, the higher a chance you have of receiving money at all. Don’t rely on UT only for scholarships-go out and look for them yourself so you don’t have to pull out loans!! If you do, it’s not the end of the world, but it is most definitely a heavy weight and requires a lot of financial responsibility.
Congrats into getting into Plan II and I hope you can find some really great scholarships!
ALSO: FILL OUT YOUR FAFSA ASAP! They will try to see what aid they can give you based on this, so do your best not to forget about it.
